ABSTRACT

Objective@#To compare and correlate the findings of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and arterial spin labeling (ASL) imaging in characterizing parotid gland tumors. @*Materials and Methods@#We retrospectively reviewed 56 patients with parotid gland tumors evaluated by MR imaging. The true diffusion coefficient (D), pseudo-diffusion coefficient (D*), and fraction of perfusion (f) values of IVIM imaging and tumor-to-parotid gland signal intensity ratio (SIR) on ASL imaging were calculated. Spearman rank correlation coefficient, chi-squared, Mann-Whitney U, and Kruskal-Wallis tests with the post-hoc Dunn-Bonferroni method and receiver operating characteristic curve assessments were used for statistical analysis. @*Results@#Malignant parotid gland tumors showed significantly lower D than benign tumors (p = 0.019). Within subgroup analyses, pleomorphic adenomas (PAs) showed significantly higher D than malignant tumors (MTs) and Warthin’s tumors (WTs) (p < 0.001). The D* of WTs was significantly higher than that of PAs (p = 0.031). The f and SIR on ASL imaging of WTs were significantly higher than those of MTs and PAs (p < 0.05). Significantly positive correlation was found between SIR on ASL imaging and f (r = 0.446, p = 0.001). In comparison with f, SIR on ASL imaging showed a higher area under curve (0.853 vs. 0.891) in discriminating MTs from WTs, although the difference was not significant (p = 0.720). @*Conclusion@#IVIM and ASL imaging could help differentiate parotid gland tumors. SIR on ASL imaging showed a significantly positive correlation with f. ASL imaging might hold potential to improve the ability to discriminate MTs from WTs.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective: To investigate the effects of XIAOJI Decoction combined with FOLFOX chemotherapy on serum cytokine expression profile in patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma by liquid chip technology. Methods: Fourteen patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma, who met the inclusion criteria and were treated in the Department of Oncology, Higher Education Mega Center Hospital of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine during January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018 were retrospectively analyzed in this study. The patients were divided into chemotherapy group (n=7, treated with 5-Fluorouracil + Calcium Folic Acid+Oxaliplatin (FOLFOX)) and combined treatment group (n=7, treated with XIAOJI Decoction + FOLFOX) according to therapeutic scheme. The curative efficacy was evaluated after 6 treatment courses. The expression profile of cytokines in blood serum of patients was examined by liquid chip technology after every 2 courses. Results: Fourteen patients received a total of 84 cycles of therapy. Survival analyses showed that the progress-free survival time (PFS) and overall survival time (OS) of two groups couldn't be compared due to insufficient samples, although the combined treatment group had longer PFS (10 months vs 6 months) and OS (17 months vs 12 months) than the chemotherapy group. As to adverse reactions, the rates of leucopenia, diarrhea, nausea, peripheral neuritis and alopecia in two groups were comparable, while the severity in combined treatment group were lighter than that in chemotherapy group. In comparison with the combined treatment group, concentrations of serum BDNF and IL-2 were statistically higher in the chemotherapy group (P<0.05). By comparing the cytokine concentrations at different collection time points before and after the treatment, it showed that the concentration of serum IL-2 in chemotherapy group was higher than that in combined treatment group after 2 courses of treatment (P<0.05). In total, there were 19 cytokines showed a tendency to be higher in combined treatment group than chemotherapy group during different treatment periods. Conclusion: Combined treatment of XIAOJI Decoction with FOLFOX for advanced colorectal carcinoma is a treatment option worth exploring, and liquid chip analysis showed that the mechanism may be related to the reduction of serum LI-2 and BDNF levels in patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of estrogen receptor in gastric antrum and the effect of estrogen on electrical activity of gastric antrum smooth muscle in female rabbits in virtue of the constructed mathematical model in order to explore the regulation of estrogen on gastric motility. Methods Using immunofluorescence to observe the expression of estrogen receptor in gastric antrum. Using BL-420F bio monitor to monitor: Comparing the difference of antral electromyography index between rabbits in ovariectomized group and rabbits in sham operating group; Observing the dose-response relationship between doses of estradiol (0,0. 1,0. 15,0. 2,0. 25 and 0. 3 mg/ kg). To construct the mathematical model, and to analyze the dose-response relationship and mechanism of action. Rresult The expression of estrogen receptor in the antral wall of the stomach was negative. The activity index of gastric antrum myoelectric activity was significantly decreased after ovarian ablation (P<0. 01). With the increase of estradiol dose, the activity index of gastric antrum muscle increased and then decreased. Analysis of variance showed that the difference of antral electromyographic activity index between adjacent groups was significant (P<0. 05) or extremely significant (P<0. 01). Taking the estradiol dose as the independent variable x, the antral electromyography activity index was the dependent variable y, and the fitting wass obtained: y= 2. 80 + 5. 65 × exp{ -0. 5 × [(x-0. 159) / 0. 038 ]

ABSTRACT

"If slight diarrhoea, replacing Ephedra with Daphninae"under the article 40 of Treatise on Febrile Diseasesis is controversial. There are two different opions in all physicians, one explaination it is in line with Zhang Zhongjing but without the evidence about"replacing Ephedra with Daphninae"; the other is that Daphninae is too strong to apply in diarrhoea. According to the analysis on Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases, the slight diarrhoea is the phenomenon of Vital qi exorcism. The reason why replacing Ephedra owing to exogenous evil disappearance, the construction of Daphninae Pinellia ternate and Paeony is to expell the water on the leaving way. And we draw a conclusion that the function of Paeony in Xiaoqinglong decoction is inclined to be expelling Water Qi.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the feasibility of integrating 3D photos and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)images and to assess the degree of error that may occur during the above process, and to analyze soft and hard tissue changes after orthognathic surgery using this new method. Methods:Ten patients with maxillofacial deformities were chosen. For each patient,CBCT scans and stereophotographic images were taken before and 3 months after surgery.3D photos were superimposed onto the CBCT skin im-ages using relatively immobile areas of the face as a reference.3D color maps and mean distances were used to evaluate the errors that might occur during the process. Two reference planes were set up using cer-tain points. The distances between Prn (pronasale),Sn (subnasale),Ls (labrale superior),ANS (anterior nasal spine),A (subspinale),UIE (upper incisor edge)to the coronal plane were calculated before and af-ter surgery. In order to verify the repeatability of this method,we examined the distances twice at two-week intervals.Paired t test was used to evaluate the reproducibility. Results:CBCT and 3D photos could be successfully fused with clinically acceptable errors. This new method could be used to evaluate soft and hard tissue changes after orthognathic surgery. The 3D color maps showed that the two images could be fused with minimal errors. The mean distances were within 0.3 mm,and the locations of landmarks on maxilla and mandible such as Ls,ANS,A,UIE changed significantly after orthognathic surgery (P 0.1 ).The paired t test showed that the mean value and standard deviation were (0.08 ±0.98)mm.Conclusion:Fusing of CBCT and 3D stereophotographic images used as a new method in evaluating soft and hard tissue changes after orthognathic surgery was feasible and accurate. The virtual 3D composite craniofacial models permitted concurrent assess-ment of hard and soft tissues during diagnosis and treatment planning.Maxillary and mandibular locations had significant association with orthoganthic surgery while the nasal tissue was not simp affected by surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the changes of posterior corneal elevation with one-year follow-up by using Allegro Oculyzer anterior segment diagnostic system in patients who had undergone laser in situ keratomileusis with femtosecond laser (FS-LASIK) for myopia. Methods Ninety eyes of forty-five patients who had undergone FS-LASIK for myopia were included in our study . The spherical equivalent of ametropia was-10.63D to -1.63D. The preoperative and postoperative corneal tomography (including 1, 3, 6 and 12 month after operation ) were collected by Allegro Oculyzer in the posterior corneal elevation and the thickness at central corneal thinnest point of each eye were measured , and the differences of the posterior corneal elevation were calculated. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis. Results There were no statistically significant differences in the changes of posterior corneal elevation from the preoperative time to the any postoperative follow-up time (F = 1.50, P > 0.05). There were no statistically significant changes of the posterior corneal elevation from the 1st month to 12th month postoperatively (F = 1.47, P > 0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the changes of thickness at central corneal thinnest point from the preoperative to the 12th month postoperative (F = 369.10, P 0.05). Conclusion After strictly followed surgical indications in FS-LASIK, the posterior corneal elevation can keep good stability and has no significant change. Thickness of central cornea thinnest point increases gradually and tends to stablity at the 3th months after surgery.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Diabetic morbidity can predict its progress tendency. National diabetic morbidity has been increased compared with previous level at present.OBJECTIVE: To compare the diabetic morbidity between populations with impaired glucose tolerance or normal blood glucose tolerance to analyze its correlative influencing factors.DESIGN: A cluster sampling survey in two communities of Liuzhou City Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region based on adults.SETTING: Department of endocrinology in a university hospital.PARTICIPANTS: Diabetic morbidity was investigated in 4 relative big unit communities of Liuzhou City between July and August 1994. The resident population of the communities was 11 886, which were all adults between 20 and 75 years old and lived in Liuzhou City for more than 5 years. Populations with either impaired glucose tolerance or normal blood glucose tolerance in 2 of the 4 unit communities were followed up in October 1999. Totally 9 230 individuals should be checked and 6 020 subjects were actually checked with the response rate of 65.22% (quite a few cases lost followed up due to unemployment and retirement, etc. ) . Inclusion criteria: Finally 5 539 subjects with complete data of two surveys entered into statistics. There were 5 237 normal individuals and 266 individuals with impaired glucose tolerance. And there were 3 177 males including 110 individuals with impaired glucose tolerance with an average age of(40 ± 12) years old, and 2 362 females including 156 individuals with impaired glucose tolerance with an average age of(41 ± 10) years old. Exclusion criterion: secondary diabetes.METHODS: Totally 5 539 subjects(including individuals with normal blood glucose or impaired glucose tolerance) who confirmed without diabetes in 1994 survey for diabetic morbidity in 2 unit communities of Liuzhou City Gugangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region received recheck in 1999 including blood glucose, body mass index(BMI), blood pressure and blood fat to analyze the impacts of each factor on diabetic morbidity.bidity among correlative risk factors.RESULTS: Totally 5 539 individuals were included into statistics. A totally of 46 of 5 237 normal individuals developed diabetes with the annual percent of conversion of 0.19%, while 50 of 226 individuals with impaired glucose tolerance developed diabetes with the annual percent of conversion of 3.84%, which had 20.9 times of correlative risk significantly higher than normal individuals(x2 = 1 063.1, P < 0. 000 1).CONCLUSION: The risk of diabetes is higher in individuals with impaired glucose tolerance than normal individuals. Age, BMI, hypertension, fasting blood glucose, blood glucose, and 1 hour blood glucose in Glucose tolerance test are risk factors of diabetic morbidity.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of combination of Syndrome Differentiation (SD) depending treatment and chemotherapy on prognostic factors in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

METHODSOne hundred and twenty patients with NSCLC were randomly divided into the TCM group, the western medicine (WM) group and the combined TCM and WM (TCM-WM) group. Besides the conventional supporting and symptomatic treatment given to all the 3 groups, to the TCM group, Chinese drug medication according to patients' SD (intravenons injection, decoction or Xiaoji Decoction) was given, to the WM group chemorherapy was given, and to the TCM-WM group, all the treatment used in both TCM and WM group were given. The long-term efficacy was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method, the 24 prognostic factors that influencing survival rate were analyzed by COX regression model multiple factors analysis to screen the risk factor and protective factor.

RESULTSThe median survival period in the TCM group was 285.00 +/- 17.92 days, in the WM group was 265.00 +/- 1.80 days, insignificant difference was found between them (P > 0.05), that in the TCM-WM group was 359.00 +/- 7.00 days, which was longer than that in the above two groups with significance (P < 0.05). The half-year and 1-year survival rates in the TCM group were 84.4% and 18.1%, in the WM group 82.5% and 20.6%, and in the TCM-WM group 92.5% and 42.7%. The 1-year survival rate in the TCM-WM group was higher than that in the TCM and WM group with significant difference (P < 0.05). Analysis on 24 prognostic factors indicated that there was significant difference (P < 0.05) in influence of such factors on survival rate as clinical stage, lymph node invasion, complications, TCM Syndrome typing, lactate dehydrogenase, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), CA199, Karnofsky scoring before treatment, therapeutic method, total scores of quality of life, stability of treatment, CD3+, etc. The former seven were the risk factors for prognosis of midlate NSCLC patients, and the latter 5 the protective factors.

CONCLUSIONTCM-WM treatment could prolong patients' survival period, elevate the long-term survival rate, it could be taken as one of the best comprehensive therapies for mid-late NSCLC patients who have missed the opportunity of surgical resection.
