ABSTRACT

Egg parasitoids of Edessa meditabunda (Fabricius) (Pentatomidae) in lettuce crop. This study evaluated the occurrence of parasitoids in eggs of the stink bug, Edessa meditabunda (Fabricius, 1794) (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae) found on lettuce crop in Mato Grosso State, Brazil. Samples were collected in the vegetable garden "Cheiro Verde", in the municipality of Tangará da Serra, in curly lettuce. A bed of lettuce was selected randomly, where the eggs of E. meditabunda were collected. Five-hundred and seventy eight eggs of E. meditabunda were collected, 86.3% of them parasitized by Telenomus podisi Ashmead, 1893 (Hymenoptera, Platygastridae), Trissolcus urichi Crawford, 1913 (Hymenoptera, Platygastridae) and Neorileya albipes Girault, 1913 (Hymenoptera, Eurytomidae), representing respectively 57.0%, 38.2% and 4.8% of the emerged individuals. This is the first record of these three species parasitizing eggs of E. meditabunda in lettuce.

ABSTRACT

This study reports the first occurrence of Coptera haywardi Loiácono as a pupal parasitoid of fruit-infesting Tephritidae in Brazil. We reared this diapriid from fruits of Eugenia uniflora (Surinam cherry) infested by Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann) and/or Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi. We also identified two other species of pupal parasitoids: Pachrycrepoideus vindemmiae Rondani and Spalangia endius Walker (Pteromalidae). Four species of larval-pupal parasitoids were also recorded: Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Utetes (Bracanastrepha) anastrephae (Viereck), Opius bellus Gahan (Braconidae) and Aganaspis pelleranoi (Brèthes) (Figitidae).


Este estudo relata a primeira ocorrência de Coptera haywardi Loiácono como parasitóide de pupa de Tephritidae que infestam frutos no Brasil. Este diapriídeo foi obtido de frutos de Eugenia uniflora (pitanga) infestados por Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann) e/ou Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi. Foram também identificadas outras duas espécies de parasitóides de pupa: Pachrycrepoideus vindemmiae Rondani e Spalangia endius Walker (Pteromalidae). Quatro espécies de parasitóides de larva-pupa foram também obtidas: Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Utetes (Bracanastrepha) anastrephae (Viereck), Opius bellus Gahan (Braconidae) e Aganaspis pelleranoi (Brèthes) (Figitidae).

ABSTRACT

As vespas do "complexo" Proctotrupoidea (Ceraphronoidea, Proctotrupoidea strictu sensu e Platygasteroidea) são um grupo grande e diverso de Hymenoptera parasítica, relativamente antigo, com fósseis a partir do período Jurássico. Todos os proctotrupóideos são parasitóides ou hiperparasitóides de outros artrópodes, atacando a maioria dos grupos de insetos terrestres bem como centípedes e aranhas. O presente estudo resume o conhecimento desse complexo no Brasil. Foi listado um total de 221 espécies, distribuídas nas famílias Ceraphronidae (1), Megaspilidae (1), Diapriidae (84), Monomachidae (9), Pelecinidae (2), Proctotrupidae (12), Platygastridae (20), Scelionidae (92). As vespas desse complexo foram revisadas taxonomicamente, discutindo-se também, os registros fósseis, atualização da distribuição geográfica e os hospedeiros associados.


The wasps of the "Proctotrupoidea complex" (Ceraphronoidea, Proctotrupoidea y Platygasteroidea) are a very large and diverse group of parasitic Hymenoptera. It is a relatively old group, with fossils from the Jurassic period. All of them are parasitoids or hiperparasitoids of other arthropods, attacking most groups of terrestrial insects as well as centipeds and spiders. The present study summarizes the knowledge of this complex in Brazil. A total of 221 species are listed; they are distributed in the families Ceraphronidae (1), Megaspilidae (1), Diapriidae (84), Monomachidae (9), Pelecinidae (2), Proctotrupidae (12), Platygastridae (20), Scelionidae (92). Taxonomy, fossil records, distribution and hosts are reviewed.
