ABSTRACT

The herbal volatile oil and aromatic herbs are traditional Chinese medicine which have some unique characteristics of volatility, special smell, complicated chemical constituents and the water insoluble property. The aromatic herbs from different sources have biodiversity effects on the cardiovascular, central nervous, respiratory and gastrointestinal system. They also play important roles in antibiosis, anti-inflammation, anticancer, antivirus and absorption enhancement, etc. In recent years, the herbal volatile oil and aromatic herbs have been widely reported to show broad prospect in medicinal application. In order to support various developmental works, the latest research results on herbal volatile oil and aromatic herbs are reviewed in this article in respect of chemical constituents, pharmacological action, and absorption enhancement.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To select proper hydrolysis time to determine Ginkgo biloba flavonoids content. METHODS: Sample dissolved in 25mL MeOH-25%∶HCl(4∶1) mixture and was heated to hydrolyze for various time, then diluted. Flavonoids'content was determined by HPLC. The conditions were developed by Shimpack CLC-ODS(150mm?6mm) column using 0.4% phosphoric acid solution-Methanol(50∶50), the detective wavelength was at 360nm with quercetin、kaempferol and isorhamnetin as standards, temperature being 30℃. RESULTS: Contents of flavonoids of Ginkgo biloba leaves,Ginkgo biloba crude extracts and Ginkgo biloba refined extracts were highest in the hydrolysis time of 2.0h. Ginkgo biloba flavonoids can be completely hydrolyzed in 2.0h. CONCLUSION: The hydrolysis time of 2.0h is best.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To select optimum macroporous resin and adsorption conditions of crocin in Fructus gardeniae. METHODS: The content of crocin was determined by UV spectrophotometer with crocin Ⅰ as standard. Property of adsorption and desorption, adsorption dynamics and factors affecting the adsorption were investigated by static adsorption method. RESULTS: The macroporus resin of HPD series had the best performance; the adsorption quantily of HPD300,HPD450,HPD400、HPD600 was 100.60 、 91.15 , 100.95 、 72.27mg?g -1 , desorption efficiency 84.05% , 87.22% , 93.83% , 78.38% , time of adsorption equilibrium was 4,3,3,2 hours respectively; the purer the sample, the higher the adsorption quantity was; the adsorption quantity had no remarkable difference when pH was less than 8 and concentration of ethanol was less than 1.5% . CONCLUSION: HPD400 was the optimum macroporous resin; the appropriate adsorption conditions consisted of 15% alcoholic sedimentation after extraction in neutral solution.

ABSTRACT

AIM: The purpose is to study the stability of ferulic acid and develop a method for determining the content of ferulic acid in angelica sinensis by HPLC. METHODS: The solvent of reference ferulic acid was HCOOH H 2O(5∶95), but the solvent of the sample was HCCOH CH 3OH(5∶95). The separation was performed on Shimpack CLC -ODS column with acetonitrile (containing 0.2% methanol) 0.1% triethylamine (containing 0.1% phosphate)(20∶80) as mobile phase. Ferulic acid was detected at 324nm with flowing rate as 1.0mL?min -1 . RESULTS: The calibration curve was linear ( r =0.9998) in the range of 0.704 17.6 ?g?mL -1 for ferulic acid. The average recovery was 99.33% and RSD 0.60%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The method is quick and convenient for determination of ferulic acid.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effect of ultrafiltration conditions on the content of aconitines, glycyrrhizic acid and solid residue in Sini Decoction water (A), 40% ethanol (B) and 60% ethanol (C) solution. Methods: Ion pair extraction combined with UV spectrophotometry, TLC combined with UV spectrophotometry and weighing method have been used respectively to detect the content of aconitines, glycyrrhizic acid and weight of dry extractum. Results: Results showed the losses of aconitines and glycyrrhizic acid were inversely proportional to the size of ultrafiltration membrane and the concentration of ethanol. The loss of glycyrrhizic acid was larger than 10%. The decrease of solid residue was proportional to the loss of glycyrrhizic acid. Conclusion: Ultrafiltration of Sini Decoction in water, 40%~60% ethanol solution cannot eliminate impurities.
