ABSTRACT

The study included 81 patients with chronic knee arthritis suffering from pain, tenderness, effusion and diminished range of movement, they were divided into Group I: included 70 patients with osteoarthritis and group II: including 11 patients with RA, SLE, AS, traumatic synovitis and palindromic rheumatism. Patients were subjected to clinical, radiological and laboratory assessment then they were subjected to IFC therapy. The results of this study showed that, the response of the patients in both groups was quite arthritis. The disappearance of pain end effusion in those patients may give a support to the neurogenic factors in the inflammatory process

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to confirm the presence of pure axonal degeneration in patients with GBS and to provide further underst and ing to the underlying peripheral nerve pathology. This study included 25 patients with GBS. Electrophysiological studies demonstrated the presence of 7 patients with pure myelinopathy, 17 patients with myelino-axonopathy and proved the presence of pure axonopathy in one patient. This study showed the value of electrophysiology in elucidating the diagnosis as well as lending support to the basic pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying the disease

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to review the clinical spectrum, as well as, electrophysiological and pathological aspects of polymyositis. They were divided into five groups. They were subjected to clinical, laboratory [CPK], electromyographic and nerve conduction and histopathologic examination. It was found that, weakness was the most prominent symptom. Serum CPK level is a sensitive test, EMG findings were highly specific, motor conduction velocity was within normal, histopathologic study is illustrative and that the classification adopted in this study is most acceptable

ABSTRACT

The intent of this study was assessment of functional grading of the patients with polymyositis during disease activity and periods of quiesence, the evaluation of the response to treatment and to define the prognosis of the disease. This study includes 17 patients diagnosed as polymyositis, they were classified into 7 groups. After full assessment, patients received treatment in the form of corticosteroids or immunosuppressive drugs. Functional grading of the patients, response to treatment, as well as, complications were studied; evident improvement was obtained with minimal complications, although long term therapy was m and atory as relapses are frequent

ABSTRACT

Shoulder pain is a frequent complication of hemiplegia. In this series, 102 hemiplegic patients were regularly followed up after their cerebrovascular accident for a period up to 12 months. They were 60 males and 42 females with a mean age 54 years. Evaluation of the shoulders of the patients was done before starting the rehabilitation programme. Distinction was made between flaccid and spastic hemiplegia. In this study, 62.7% of the patients had shoulder pain, more commonly encountered in those with spasticity [84.4%]. Soft tissue inflammation was present in 48.4% and reflex sympathetic dystrophy in 17.1% of the cases more in those with spasticity. Subluxation was demonstrated in 17.1% and associated of more than one local problem was encountred in 17.1% of the cases with painful shoulder. There was a significant correlation of shoulder pain and the degree of spasticity and the age of the patients
