ABSTRACT

Ramadan is a lunar month that muslims have food and water intake restricted to night hours except those who have illness that fasting may be harmful for them. We studied the effects of fasting during Ramadan on patients suffering from duodenal ulcer [DU]. 84 endoscopicaly documented duodenal ulcer patients were studied. They were divided into two groups [fasting and non-fasting] according to their own decision and treated with Omeprazol [40mg daily]. Sign and symptom such as pain, dyspepsia nausea, bleeding and healing of ulcer were studied. Healing rate of ulcer was 79.76% totally. Non-fasting group and fasting group had healing rate of 75.5% and 85.7% respectively. Therefore no significant differences were observed between the two groups considering symptoms, complications or ulcer healing. Patients with duodenal ulcer while are treating with antisecretory agents can fast during Ramadan without any fear of complications

ABSTRACT

Trichosomoides crassicaud, a nematode of Trichuridae, maybe found in kidney, and ureters of rats. In Iran, it is a parasite of rats, too. In this laboratory study, the morphological characterization of this species from rattus spp. was compared with other reports in the world. Trichosomoides crassicauda was obtained from the bladders and ureters of two species of rattus including brown rat [R. norvegicus] and black rat [R.rattus]. After trapping the rodents, they were dissected and their urinary organs were examined. In case of infectivity with Trichosomoides crassicauda, the nematode was gently removed and after clearing and staining, the details were observed by light microscope. The male and female of Trichosomoides crassicauda were measured 1-3 mm by length and 20-40im by width and 8-18mm by length and 180-250im by width, respectively. The eggs measured 50-80 im long. There is a minor difference between the measurements of Trichosomoides crassicauda in current study with similar reports in the world. This difference is probably due to existence of different strains of Trichosomoides crassicauda in various geographical regions and also partly as a result of age effect

ABSTRACT

The current practice to measure RV is either by BPG or helium dilution methods which may not be available in all clinics due to their cost. This paper outlines a method for both direct and indirect calculation of RV via PFT with acceptable sensitivity [81%, 60%], specificity [71%, 94%] and validity [76%, 78%] for obstructive and restrictive lung disease respectively at a much lower cost

ABSTRACT

Background: Trichosomoides crassicaud, a nematode of Trichuridae, maybe found in kidney, and ureters of their rats. In Iran, it is a parasite of rats, too

Materials and methods: In this laboratory study, the morphological characterization of this species from rattus spp. was compared with other reports in the world. Trichosomoides crassicauda was obtained from the bladders and ureters of two species of rattus including brown rat [R. norvegicus] and black rat [R.rattus]. After trapping the rodents, they were dissected and their urinary organs were examined. In case of infectivity with Trichosomoides crassicauda, the nematode was gently removed and after clearing and staining, the details were observed by light microscope

Results: The male and female of Trichosomoides crassicauda were measured 1-3 mm by length and 20-40im by wide and 8-18mm by length and 180-2 50im by wide, respectively. The eggs measured 50-80 im long

Conclusions: There is a minor difference between the measurements of Trichosomoides crassicauda in current study with similar reports in the world. This difference is probably due to existence of different strains of Trichosomoides crassicauda in various geographical regions and also partly as a result of age effect

ABSTRACT

A case of pheochromocytoma of the bladder is presented with a review of the literature. We discuss general management principles of bladder pheochromocytoma. Successful diagnosis and treatment of this lesion requires a high index of suspicion based upon the patient's symptom complex, allowing preoperative preparation prior to surgical treatment
