ABSTRACT

This retrospective study reviewed cases of partial hydatidiform mole [PHM] diagnosed at the University Hospital in Casablanca from 2000 to 2010 in order to examine the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and progressive pathological factors associated with PHM. All PHM cases confirmed clinically and sonographically at pathological examination were included. We identified 24 cases of PHM among 60 748 births and 1704 abortions, giving a frequency of 0.4 per 1000 pregnancies and 1.4% of abortions. The mean age was 26 years [range: 16-55 years]. The circumstances of discovery and clinical ultrasound varied: 79.2% of patients sought consultation for bleeding; clinical thyrotoxicosis syndrome was found in 1 patient [4.2%]. Physical examination showed increased uterine size in 83.3% of cases associated with a latero-uterine mass in 25%. The diagnosis was supported by an ultrasound examination combined with measurement of plasma beta HCG. Histological confirmation was made in all cases and treatment was endo-uterine aspiration. Neoplastic drift was observed in 1 case [4.2%] which went into remission with chemotherapy

ABSTRACT

The Mediterranean forests are exposed yearly to several forest fire events threatening the social, economical, ecological and living conditions of human being. The majority of these fires are of anthropogenic origin. The Nahr Ibrahim watershed [NIW] represents a typical example of the Lebanese areas having abundant forest surface [38.23% of its surface] but suffering recently from forest fires. The preservation of these natural resources is a priority for the continuity, stability and prosperity of the country. Several methods were applied to evaluate the potential forest fire risk in order to identify hot spots and reduce the potential damage. In this context mapping forest fire risk is a priority and a preliminary tool for the prevention of catastrophic fire events and development of sustainable forest management plans. The use of remote sensing and GIS provided the solid base for similar studies such as the forest fire risk map done for Lebanon at 1:200.000 scale. Therefore, the need for more detailed analysis at the watershed level arises. In this study a comparative analysis was conducted at a large scale [1: 50.000] on the NIW to assess the effect of several natural factors [climate, topography, vegetation and soil conditions] on forest fire risk. A combination of natural and anthropogenic factors [urban settlements, roads and zones with agricultural activity] provided better understanding of the impact of anthropogenic activities on forest hazards and forest resources conservation. The results show that forest fire in high risk zones is aggravated by anthropogenic activities: an increase from 5% to 38% was detected. In areas of moderate risk the increase goes from 7 to 25%. On the other hand, areas with low risk zones noticed a significant decrease when the anthropogenic activities were incorporated. Areas with very low risk have almost vanished

ABSTRACT

Cervical carcinoma associated pregnancy is rare relating to only 3 to 17 pregnancies out of 10000 The two principal prognostic factors of cervical cancer which are the stage of disease and the lymphatic spread are associated to other factors concerning the pregnancy which are the term of pregnancy and the mode of delivery The triplet smear-colposcopy-biopsy poses the exact diagnosis in 99,5% of cases, and the colposcopy is indicated each time the smear is suspect or positive, or if a biopsy is necessary in front of a suspect clinical examination This association raises the delicate question of the attitude to adopt with respect to the foetus as well as obstetrical therapeutic We recorded 3 cases in Maternity LALLA MERIEM of the C H U Ibn Rochd of CASABLANCA between 1998 and 2001 as well as a review of the literature in order to elucidate the principal points of the therapeutic
