ABSTRACT

Polycystic ovary syndrome [PCOS] is an endocrine disorder, characterized by anovulation, hirsutism, acne, hyperandrogenism, impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance and obesity. Life style modifications are recommended to prevent and treat obese and over weight women with PCOS. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of aerobic exercise program on concentrations of LH, FSH, TST and DHEA in obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Seventeen obese female volunteers who were diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome [age: 15-30 y and BMI=29.35 +/- 2.88 Kg/m2] were selected. An aerobic exercise program was performed for 12-weeks, three sessions week]. Anthropometric characteristics, metabolic and hormonal profiles were measured at base line and after 12-week exercises or [36th session]. Data were analyzed by Paired-Samples T Test [t-student], P values <0.05 being considered significant. After the 12-week exercise program, subjects showed a significant reduction in body weight, body fat percent, waist circumference, luteinizing hormone and an increase in Vo2-peak[P<0/05]; changes however in body mass index, FSH, TST and DHEA were not significant. These results suggest that aerobic exercise training affects some of anthropometric characteristics and metabolic and hormonal profiles and also improves metabolic status and ovulation disorders, including polycystic ovary syndrome

ABSTRACT

Chlorophenol compounds are used frequently in industries including: petrochemical, producing pesticide and herbicides, producing antimicrobial agents, pharmaceutical and refineries. These compounds can enter the environment through the wastewater industries. This investigation has studied the application of Fenton-like process [Fe[0]/H[2]O[2]] in removal of Parachlorophenol. A laboratory scale study was done on a synthetic wastewater containing Para-chlorophenol. Concentration of 10 mg/L of Para-chlorophenol was prepared then optimal values of affecting parameters such as pH, hydrogen peroxide, and iron powder and detention time in the process for Para-chlorophenol removal were determined. The optimum pH, molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide on Para-chlorophenol, hydrogen peroxide on iron powder and time were 4, 18.8, 0.4 and 5 minutes respectively. The results showed that removal efficiency in optimal conditions for concentrations of 10, 50 and 100 mg/L are 93.9, 94.4 and 94.3 respectively. The study showed the rate of mineralization of Para-chlorophenol is not completed. According to the results of this study and high resistance in degradation by biological processes, Fenton like process can be used for conversion Para-chlorophenol resistant compound to other compounds with ability of higher biological degradation and lower toxicity

ABSTRACT

A great part of organic compounds cause more pollution in natural waters meet, are chemical dye material. Azo dyes have more usage in different industries. Azo dyes not only give undesirable dye to the water but also have mutation potential and carcinogenesis effects in human and cause the production of toxic substances in water environments. The purpose of this study is investigation of iron powder, hydrogen peroxide and iron powder-hydrogen peroxide processes in removal of acid yellow 36 dye from aqueous solutions. This study was conducted in laboratory scale. At this experiment synthetic solution was made from acid yellow 36 dye, and the removal of acid yellow 36 dye was studied by iron powder, hydrogen peroxide and iron powder-hydrogen peroxide processes .Also effect of dye concentration, pH solution, hydrogen peroxide concentration, iron powder concentration and the time of contact on decolorization, were evaluated. The results showed that iron powder-hydrogen peroxide process, compared to two other process has high decolorization power. Removal efficacy of iron powder-hydrogen peroxide process with H[2]O[2]=23.33 ml / L, pH=3, iron powder 2000 mg/L and 60 minute, was about 97.9% In general this investigation showed that, this method [Iron powder-hydrogen peroxide process] has high efficiency for removal of Azo dyes. But application this method in the industry, should be economically evaluated

ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus disease can negatively influence the physical functioning, emotional state, and individual, family and social relationships of patients with diabetes and, in general, their health and feeling of wellness. Caloric restriction and oral hypoglycemic agents also have undesirable effects on the mental health of these patients. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of aerobic exercise training on mental and physical health, anxiety, insomnia, social functioning and depression in patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this clinical trial, fifty-three patients with type 2 diabetes, age range 45.15 +/- 6.11 years, with average of 5 +/- 3 years of disease were chosen purposively and were randomly assigned into 2 groups, the 8 week aerobic exercise training [n=27] and the non-training [n=26] group. The aerobic exercise training group participated in an aerobic training program, intensity 60-70% heart reserve, frequency 3 days/week, duration 45-60 min/session. Mental health was evaluated using a general health questionnaire [GHQ] in the two groups before and after the study. The independent t-test was used for data analysis. The 8 weeks aerobic exercise training had a significant effect on mental health, subscales of physical symptoms, anxiety and insomnia [p<0.05]. However no significant effect on subscales of social functioning and depression was observed [p>0.05]. Aerobic exercise training, as part of a health promotion program, can be effective on the mental health of patients with type 2 diabetes
