ABSTRACT

Sinus pericranii is an unusual venous anomaly characterized by communication of pericranial varicosities with an underlying dural sinus. The varicosities are intimately associated with the periostium, are distensible, and vary in size with changes in intracranial pressure. Symptoms are infrequent but include headache, vertigo, feelings of fullness, local pain, or dermatological lesion. It presents at the paediatric age group more than other age groups and it affects males more than females. Although its aetiology has not been settled yet, however, computerized tomography scan discloses those of traumatic nature. Although, in many instances, it raises a cosmetic concern to the patient and parents, the condition is not without possible "significant' complications, e.g., haemorrhage, infection, dermatological, and air embolism during operative intervention. We describe the clinical features, imaging and operative findings of a case of Sinus pericranii presented to our department, the reason for the surgical treatment of which was the cosmetic concern of the patient's parents

ABSTRACT

A total of 80 Barki lambs were fed on colostrum of 3 groups vaccinated dams by E. coli K99 vaccines and one group was Ieft non vaccinated as control. A total of 80 colostrum samples were collected at parturition time and blood samples were collected at different intervals, from the newborn lambs [born to vaccinated and non - vaccinated ewes]. The indirect method of ELISA technique and agglutination test were preformed for the detection of K99 antibodies in sera and colostrum samples. Vaccination of pregnant ewes during the late period of pregnancy, resulted in an increase of the K99 antibody levels in the colostrum samples when compared with that of non - vaccinated dams. The mean antibody reading of lamb serum samples showed a gradual increase during the first week of life. It reached the maximum level in samples of the 3[rd] to the 7[th] day of age. There was a decrease in the antibody titers later on, but a detectable level of antibody was still recorded up to 12[th] week after parturition. Lambs nursing ewes vaccinated with aluminum hydroxide formalin killed vaccine showed a significant abrupt rise in their K99 antibody levels, followed by those vaccinated with scourguard vaccine and then lambs nursing ewes vaccinated with irradiated vaccine

ABSTRACT

Twenty-four samples of raw camel's milk were collected from she camels, in part of the north western coastal desert. The collected samples were analyzed for detection of aflatoxin M1. Aflatoxin M1 was detected in 25% of camel's milk samples, with a mean value of 0.55 mug/L [0.3-0.85]. The public health importance of aflatoxin M1 and the control measures to safeguard the consumers from exposure to aflatoxins were discussed

ABSTRACT

The pathogenicity of Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus to the corena of both previously cortisonized and uncortisonized rabbit eyes was studied of uncortisonized animals for the tested fungal strain were low. While it was observed that the previously cortisonized animals were highly susceptible to such tested organisms. The clinical picture of the infected corneal tissue showed that there was characteristic pathognomonic lesions for each tested fungal pathogen. Histopathological erxamination of the infected corneal lesions revealed the presence of some pathological signs which emphasized the possibility of contracting such fungal infection
