ABSTRACT

Risk management is a process that identifies, analyses and treats potential hazards in a hospital. This study in Egypt aimed to enhance nurses, knowledge and awareness about risk management. Baseline knowledge and awareness of 33 nurse managers and 65 staff nurses showed that 35.7% of nurses had adequate knowledge and 50.0% were aware of the current risk management processes at the hospital. A nursing risk management system was designed and a jury group of 30 nursing leaders and 30 physicians validated the system. Implementation of the system through training sessions to raise awareness led to statistically significant improvements in nurses' knowledge, which persisted at follow-up

ABSTRACT

Nine theophylline and seven aminophylline suppository formulations were prepared. The base used were polyethylene glycol blend, Suppocire A, NA10 and AP, Witepsol H15 and Estaram H15. The fatty bases were used either alone or in combination with each other. In some theophylline formulations, 1% docusate sodium, as a release enhancer, was incorporated. The effect of some additives on the stability of aminophylline suppositories was investigated. All formulations were tested for their drug release and melting points over a period of one year. The results revealed that formulations prepared with aminophylline in PEG, theophylline in PEG or Suppocire AP possess the best stability and fastest drug release. Besides, these formulations were recommended for the development of theophylline suppositories

The synthesis and in vitro antimicrobial evaluation of 5-arylglyoxylidenethiazolidine -2, 4-diones and 5-[arylglyoxaylidene, arylidene- and isatinly idene]-3 phenacyl thiazoldine-2, 4-diones are described. ABSTRACT

Bovine liver catalase was immobilized on nonporous glass beads by covalent bonding. Higher concentration of catalase in the immobilizing solution resulted in higher activities in the immobilized sample. This was found to be true only up to certain limit. The immobilized enzyme activity was determined using the oxygen evolution from 0.01 M hydrogen peroxide. Linear rates were observed during the first 50 seconds because a negligible proportion of the substrate is used up and because enzyme inactivation is too slow to affect the initial rate
