ABSTRACT

The flavonoidal constituents were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of aqueous alcoholic extract of Monstera deliciosa Liebem. [Family: Araceae]. Chromatographic fractionation of the ethyl acetate fraction resulted in the isolation of three compounds: quercetin-4-O-beta-D glucopyranoside, calycosin-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside and isovitexin [6-C-glucosyl apigenin]. The structure of these isolated compounds was established applying physicochemical and spectral techniques [PC, TLC, UV, [1]H-NMR and MS analyses], as well as comparison with reference compounds and published data. The polysaccharide hydrolysate of the aerial parts of Monstera deliciosa was found to contain glucouronic acid, glucose and xylose using PC. Moreover, the antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of the chloroformic and ethyl acetate fractions as well as the purified compound quercetin-4-O-glucoside, were investigated and significant results were obtained

ABSTRACT

Preliminary phytochemical screening was carried Out for the three plants under investigation: Colutea istria, Alhagi graecorum and Astragalus vogelii Sixteen flavonoidal compounds were isolated and identified as:quercetin-3-glucoside; quercetin-3-gentiobioside; quercetin-3,7-diglucoside; isorhamnetm-3-gentiobioside; isorhamnetin-3-rutinoside;kaempferide-3,7-diglucoside; 2',4,4'trihydroxychalcone; 2',4,4',6' tetrahydroxychalcone; formononetin; daidzein; calycosin; cladrin; rhamnocitrin-3-neohesperidoside; rhamnocitrin-3-glucoside; thamnocitrin-3-galactoside and rhamnocitrin aglycone. The volatile constituents were analysed by GC/MS spectrometry, the effect of the alcoholic extracts on the brine shrimp and the antimicrobial activity were carried out

ABSTRACT

A new hydrolysable tannin: 1-methyl-2,3-di-O-galloyl-alpha-[4]C[1]- glucopyranose [1] was isolated from the fruits of Ceratonia siliqua, together with six known phenolic compounds [2-7]. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic analyses. The known compounds were 2,3,4-tri-O-galloyl-[alpha/beta-[4]C[1] -glucopyranose [2], 1,2,36-tetra-O-galloyl-beta[4]C[1]-glucopyranose [3], 1,2,6-tri-O-galloyl- beta-[4]C[1] -glucopyranose [4], gallic acid methyl ester[5], gallic acid [6] and 7,8-dihydroxycoumarin [7]. The alcoholic extract [70%] and gallic acid [isolated from the same extract] exhibited an antioxidant activity by Paramagnetic Spin Resonance method

ABSTRACT

The ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of Astragalus spinosus yielded a new flavonoid 8-methoxykaempferol-3-O-glucoside-4'-O- rhamnoside, which identified by means of spectroscopic methods, in addition to kaempferol-3-O-glucoside, kaempferol-3-O-gentiobioside and kaempferol-3,7-diglucoside. The ethanolic extract of the defatted powder, exhibited cytotoxicity when tested by the brine shrimp test bioassay
