ABSTRACT

The complexes: Fe [Beta- dik][3], 1, K Pt [Beta-dik][2] Gl], 2 and K[Pd [Beta-dik][2] C1]4u, 3, [where Beta-dik = delta [phenylmercapto] - acetoacet - p- methoxyanilide] were prepared. IR investigations showed that coordination sites are not the same in all complexes. Complex I is octahedrally linked via the oxygen atoms of the ligand anions, whereas complexes 2 and 3 are square planar complexes. The ligating sites are the oxygen atoms of one ligand anion, the central carbon, atom of another ligand anion and the fourth position is occupied by the chloride ion. The acid dissociation, constant of the ligand as well as the formation constants of its metal chelates were determined at 20 degree in 60 percent ethanol-water media

ABSTRACT

The complexes: Fe [Beta - dik] SO[4]. 7H[2]O, Cu [Beta-dik] [CH[3]-I COO], K[pd [Beta-dik][2] C1] and K2[Pt [Beta-dik][2], Cl-].2H[2]O [where Beta-dik-1 =N- [3-pyridyl]-acetoacetamide] were prepared. The structure of the complexes was determined by means of infrared studies and thermal analysis, in addition to esr investigations in the case of the copper complex. The iron complex is 1:1 octahedral. The coordination sites are oxygen bonded to the Beta-diketonate anion, one bidentate sulphate planar anion and two water molecules. The copper complex is 1:1 square and the coordination sites are one bidentate acetate anion and one [O,O] bonded Beta- diketonate anion. The palladiam and platinum complexes are square planar but with different ligating sites. The acid dissociation constant of ligand [1] and the stability constants of its metal chelates were determined potentiometrically at 20 degree using 60 percent v/v ethanol water media as a solvent
