ABSTRACT

The present study was conducted on 28 male patients suffering from chronic renal failure aged from 20-40 years, 16 of them were bilharzial and 12 were non bilharzial. Healthy 14 males matching for age were selected as control, 8 of them were bilharzial and 6 were non bilharzial. Serum parathormone, calcitonin and osteocalcin levels were estimated. Serum levels of parathormone and osteocalcin showed significant increase in uremic patients while calcitonin level showed insignificant changes. On the other hand, parathormone, osteocalcin and calcitonin levels in chronic renal failure on top of schistosomal infestation showed insignificant results. It is concluded that the significant increased levels of parathormone and osteocalcin in chronic renal failure can be attributed to disturbance in renal functions due to chronic renal failure

ABSTRACT

This study was done on 91 patients suffering from psoriasis vulgaris [33 patients], acne vulgaris [33 patients] and atopic dermatitis [25 patients] and atopic dermatitis [25 children] and 26 healthy control of matched age and sex [16 adults of both sexes and 10 children]. Zinc, copper, cobalt and selenium were estimated in the serum and skin of patients and controls. Zinc levels were reduced significantly in serum and skin of psoriatic patients and only in skin of acne vulgaris and atopic dermatitis patients as compared with control groups. Selenium levels were reduced significantly in both serum and skin of psoriatic and atopic dermatitis patients and only in serum of acne vulgaris patients when compared with control groups. Copper levels were significantly increased in serum of psoriatic and atopic dermatitis patients as compared to the control groups

ABSTRACT

This work was performed on three groups: Control, hyperthyroid and hypothyroid groups. Serum T3, T4 and TSH were measured spectrophotometrically, while serum enkephalins was measured by high performance liquid chromatography [PHLC]. Results showed a significant increase in circulating enkephalins in hyperthyroid group as compared with control group, and nonsignificant decrease in circulating enkephalins in hypothyroid group in comparison with control group. A significant positive correlation was found between serum enkephalins and the thyroid hormones, and a significant negative correlation between serum enkephalins and thyrotropin hormone
