ABSTRACT
Fifty adult patients with non-articular rheumatism were entered into an open study to show the efficacy and safety of piroxicam, a new non steroidal anti-infammatory drug in the management of these cases. They received Piroxicam in a dose of 20mg in the morning and 20mg in the evening after meal for two days and then 20mg daily in the morning for additional 12 days. Piroxicam significantly reduced pain, tenderness and increase the range of movement in forty two patients [84%] six cases [12%] showed mild improvement and three cases [6%] showed no response. 5 cases [10%] reported side effects, the most common being epigastric pain, but no case stopped Piroxicam therapy. Laboratory parameters done on haematologic, hepatic and renal studied showed no significant deviation from base values
