ABSTRACT

Radiosurgery is introduced recently in ENT practice. It was evaluated in tonsillectomy in comparison with conventional ligation method. Two groups [200 cases each] were submitted to tonsillectomy by each method. The evaluation included the time needed to perform tonsillectomy, the severity and duration of postoperative pain and the incidence of reactionary and secondary post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage. It was concluded that less time was consumed by radiosurgery than ligation. Radiosurgery was accompanied by postoperative pain of less severity and of shorter duration than ligation. Also, radiosurgery was followed by less incidence of postoperative hemorrhage than ligation method
