ABSTRACT

Date palm fruit is one of the highly consumed foods with antioxidant compounds and high nutritive value in Iran. In this study, total phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity of three varieties of date palm [Hajmohamadi, Kabkab, and Khasi] in three stages of ripening were investigated. This was a laboratory study. Palm fruits of Hajmohamadi, Kabkab, and Khasi varieties in three stages of Khalal, Rotab, and Tamar were collected of Behbahan, Khuzestan province, Iran, in November 2012. Hydroalcholic extracts were prepared by maceration method. Total phenolic content was measured by the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. Ferric reducing antioxidant power [FRAP], diphenylpicrylhydrazyl [DPPH] free-radical scavenging, and total antioxidant capacity tests were used to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of extracts. Phenolic compound content, ferric reducing power, and total antioxidant capacity increased in Hajmohamadi, Kabkab, and Khasi varieties during ripening. Increase in ferric reducing power was significant. The lowest DPPH test result [IC50], in all three varieties during ripening, was observed in the date stage. Ferric reducing power increases during ripening stages. Moreover, the DPPH radical scavenging capacity decreases in the three varieties of dates during ripening

ABSTRACT

Providing high quality health care is not possible without information related to the past and current condition of the patient. Records show which services, where, when and by whom was delivered. Documentation is referred to the process of precisely recording the information regarding patient care and treatment. The purpose of this study is to determine the essential data set required in audiology record keeping and designing a model for Iran. In an applied research of a descriptive-comparative type which was carried out in 2010, data elements of audiology records of domestic and foreign patient notes were used to compile a check list which was subjected to debate by Iranian audiologists in Delphi method. 110 audiologists and 17 faculty members responded to the opinion poll. From 51 elements which were subjected to discussion, 37 elements by more than 75 percent of the participants, nine elements by 50 to 75 percent of the participants and five elements by less than 50 percent of the participants, were agreed upon. The only element to be considered more important by faculty members than audiologists was "Gender" [p=0.018]. Seventy percent of the participants valued the effectiveness of information in patient records very high. The minimum data set for audiology records must include demographic information, past medical history, patient assessment and treatment plan. With reference to record design principles this information was used to develop a model for patient audiology record which also included the necessary instructions for completing it

ABSTRACT

Domestic violence is a risk factor for a wide range of health problems. This study investigated the prevalence of domestic violence and its related factors among women who attending health centers in four cities of Khuzestan provinces. In a descriptive-analytical study, 1820 women aged between 14-56 years who referred to health centers of Ahwaz, Abadan, Dezful and Andymeshk were studied. An interview-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Logistic regression model for the calculating the odds ratio was applied. Overall prevalence of physical violence at any time of life was 20.2%. The prevalence of psychological, sexual and any type of violence were 41%, 10.9% and 47.3%, respectively. Logistic regression showed that experience of any type of violence has a significant relationship with literacy, employment, ethnicity, city of residence, age of women and history of psychiatric disorders in husbands. The prevalence of violence in Khuzestan was high. Health centers need to consider routine screening and referring victims of violence

ABSTRACT

Endometrial remodeling occurs during each menstrual cycle in women. Reports have shown that, in a variety of cell types, processes such as proliferation, signaling complex formation and extra cellular matrix remodeling require a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase, focal adhesion kinase [FAK]. The present study has focused on the expression pattern of FAK in human endometrium during the menstrual cycle. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the probable function of FAK in menstrual cycle changes and the role of FAK in tissue repair and tissue remodeling in vivo. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded endometrial samples were obtained from 400 pre-menopausal, non-pregnant women, who underwent hysterectomy and biopsy for benign diseases. Forty six samples with no tissue abnormalities were studied and ABC staining method of immuno-histochemistry methods was applied. Positive staining of FAK by different cell types of human endometrium was scaled and compared with each other by using histologic score method. All different cell types of endometrium showed various patterns of FAK expression in different stages of menstruation. FAK in glandular and luminal epithelial cells is up-regulated during the early proliferative [EP] to mid-secretory [MS] phases. FAK in stromal cells is up-regulated during the EP, early and MS phases in comparison to the late secretory [LS] phase. FAK expression in endothelial cells is up-regulated during the EP and MS phases in comparison to LS phase. This study showed that endometrial FAK expression is a phase-dependent manner during the menstrual cycle. It appears that up-regulation of FAK during the proliferative phases is responsible for endometrial regeneration and high expression of FAK in the EP and MS phases may associate with the implantation. Down-regulation of FAK during the LS phase may facilitate apoptosis in human endometrium. It seems that FAK as a key kinase plays a critical role in endometrial remodeling that it may regulate by steroid hormones
