ABSTRACT

This study retrieved Croci Stigma related literature from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and Web of Science database, and used bibliometrics and CiteSpace 6.1.R2 software to analyze the published Croci Stigma related articles in Chinese and English from 2000 to 2022. The authors, research institutions, and keywords were visualized and analyzed, and the current status and development trend of Croci Stigma research was summarized by combining the information extraction methods. A total of 1 846 Chinese articles and 2 703 English articles were screened out and included. The results showed a generally steady increase in the number of Croci Stigma related articles. The results of the visualization analysis showed that there were more collaborations between researcher teams and major research institutions in English articles than Chinese articles. The Chinese articles was mainly published by China Pharmaceutical University, and most of the inter-institutional collaborations occurred in neighboring regions. The English articles was mainly published by Iranian institutions, and most of the cooperation occurred within the country, with less transnational cooperation. Keywords analysis showed that the research on Croci Stigma was mainly focused on chemical compositions, pharmacological effects, mechanisms, quality control, etc. It was predicted that the future research hotspots of Croci Stigma would mainly focus on pharmacological mechanism and clinical efficacy. The current research related to Croci Stigma still needs to be developed, cooperation should be strengthened, and more in-depth research should be conducted.

ABSTRACT

Aim To study the ameliorative effects of Hypericum perforatum extract(HPE)on high altitude cerebral edema(HACE)in hypoxia rats. Methods A large low-pressure oxygen chamber was used to simulate the hypoxia environment at an altitude of 7 500 m.The pathological changes of HPE on the brain tissues of HACE rats were observed, and the water content, oxidative stress and inflammatory factors related indicators of brain tissues were detected. Results Through administered HPE by gavage, the histopathological damage of HACE rats was improved, the concentration of nuclear pyknosis was reduced, the degree of vacuolization was reduced, and the inflammatory response was alleviated. At the same time,HPE decreased the water content and the contents of MDA,H2O2,IL-1β,IL-6,VEGF and TNF-α in brain tissues of HACE rats, while increased the content of GSH and the activities of T-SOD and CAT.Conclusions HPE can ameliorate HACE in hypoxic rats to some extent, the mechanism of which may be related to ameliorating oxidative stress injury and reducing inflammation response.Hypericum perforatum is expected to be developed as a drug preparation for the treatment of HACE.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#The neoadjuvant chemotherapy is increasingly used in advanced gastric cancer, but the effects on safety and survival are still controversial. The objective of this meta-analysis was to compare the overall survival and short-term surgical outcomes between neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery (NACS) and surgery alone (SA) for locally advanced gastric cancer.@*METHODS@#Databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar) were explored for relative studies from January 2000 to January 2021. The quality of randomized controlled trials and cohort studies was evaluated using the modified Jadad scoring system and the Newcastle-Ottawa scale, respectively. The Review Manager software (version 5.3) was used to perform this meta-analysis. The overall survival was evaluated as the primary outcome, while perioperative indicators and post-operative complications were evaluated as the secondary outcomes.@*RESULTS@#Twenty studies, including 1420 NACS cases and 1942 SA cases, were enrolled. The results showed that there were no significant differences in overall survival (P = 0.240), harvested lymph nodes (P = 0.200), total complications (P = 0.080), and 30-day post-operative mortality (P = 0.490) between the NACS and SA groups. However, the NACS group was associated with a longer operation time (P < 0.0001), a higher R0 resection rate (P = 0.003), less reoperation (P = 0.030), and less anastomotic leakage (P = 0.007) compared with SA group.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Compared with SA, NACS was considered safe and feasible for improved R0 resection rate as well as decreased reoperation and anastomotic leakage. While unbenefited overall survival indicated a less important effect of NACS on long-term oncological outcomes.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#High-fat diet (HFD) and inflammation are two key contributors to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Shenling Baizhu powder (SLBZP), a classical herbal compound, has been successfully used to alleviate NAFLD. However, its specific mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, we assessed the anti-NAFLD effect of SLBZP in vivo.@*METHODS@#Rats were fed an HFD with or without SLBZP or with probiotics. At the end of week 16, an echo magnetic resonance imaging (EchoMRI) body composition analyser was used to quantitatively analyse body composition; a micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) imaging system was used to evaluate whole body and liver fat; and the Moor full-field laser perfusion imager 2 was used to assess liver microcirculation, after which, all rats were sacrificed. Then, biochemical indicators in the blood and the ultrastructure of rat livers were evaluated. Protein expression related to the liver Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/Nod-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) signalling pathway was assessed using Western blot analysis. Further, high-throughput screening of 29 related inflammatory factors in liver tissue was performed using a cytokine array.@*RESULTS@#SLBZP supplementation reduced body weight, serum free fatty acid, and insulin resistance index (P < 0.05). It also ameliorated liver microcirculation and ultrastructural abnormalities. EchoMRI and micro-CT quantitative analyses showed that treatment with SLBZP reduced fat mass and visceral fat (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). In addition, SLBZP decreased the expression of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated TLR4/NLRP3 signalling pathway-related proteins and altered the expression levels of some inflammatory cytokines in liver tissues.@*CONCLUSION@#SLBZP can inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome activation and interleukin-1β release by suppressing LPS-induced TLR4 expression in rats with HFD-induced NAFLD. Thus, SLBZP may be beneficial for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory damage and associated diseases.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Extralevator abdominoperineal excision (ELAPE) has become a popular procedure for low rectal cancer as compared with abdominoperineal excision (APE). No definitive answer has been achieved whether one is superior to the other. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ELAPE for low rectal cancer with meta-analysis.@*METHODS@#The Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, and PubMed databases before September 2019 were comprehensively searched to retrieve comparative trials of ELAPE and APE for low rectal cancer. Pooled analyses of the perioperative variables, surgical complications, and oncological variables were performed. Odds ratio (OR) and mean differences (MD) from each trial were pooled using random or fixed effects model depending on the heterogeneity of the included studies. A subgroup analysis or a sensitivity analysis was conducted to explore the potential source of heterogeneity when necessary.@*RESULTS@#This meta-analysis included 17 studies with 4049 patients, of whom 2248 (55.5%) underwent ELAPE and 1801 (44.5%) underwent APE. There were no statistical differences regarding the circumferential resection margin positivity (13.0% vs. 16.2%, OR = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.42-1.14, P = 0.15) and post-operative perineal wound complication rate (28.9% vs. 24.1%, OR = 1.21, 95% CI = 0.75-1.94, P = 0.43). The ELAPE was associated with lower rate of intraoperative perforation (6.6% vs. 11.3%, OR = 0.50, 95% CI = 0.39-0.64, P < 0.001) and local recurrence (8.8% vs. 20.5%, OR = 0.29, 95% CI = 0.21-0.41, P < 0.001) when compared with APE.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The ELAPE was associated with a reduction in the rate of intra-operative perforation and local recurrence, without any increase in the circumferential resection margin positivity and post-operative perineal wound complication rate when compared with APE in the surgical treatment of low rectal cancer.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo explore the significance of apoptosis of rabbit small intestinal mucosal epithelial cells and lymphocytes, and lymphocytes of lumbrical process at early postburn stage.

METHODSTwenty-five Japanese white rabbits were randomly divided into 5 groups with 5 in each group, i.e. normal control (N), 3-postburn-hour group (3 PBH), 6 PBH, 12 PBH and 24 PBH groups. The rabbits in all PBH groups were inflicted with 30% TBSA III degree of flame burn on the back. The intestinal tissue samples were harvested from 5 anatomical sites for HE staining, electron microscopic examination and the detection of apoptosis in situ by TUNEL method at all the postburn time points. The results of TUNEL slides were analyzed statistically.

RESULTSHE staining revealed that there were relatively abundant apoptotic cells scattering solitarily in the lymph nodules and diffuse lymphatic tissue in the mucosal epithelial and mucosal lamina propria (and partially extended into the submucosal layer) of the intestine and lumbrical process in all burn groups. There were some disruption of intestinal mucosa in 24 PBH group. But no obvious inflammatory reaction and signs of necrosis were observed in all the slides. Apoptotic body formation could be identified by EM. Large number of blue-black positive cellular nuclei were revealed by TUNEL method with their distribution as similar to that found by HE staining. When comparing with those in control group, the apoptotic cells in small intestine and lumbrical process were increased obviously (P < 0.01) in 3 PBH group and reached the top level in 6 and 12 PBH groups (P < 0.01), declining thereafter to near value of 3 PBH in 24 PBH group, though it was still higher than control (P < 0.05). The number of apoptotic epithelial cells in middle distal portions of small intestinal mucosa in burn groups was much higher than that in proximal intestine (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThere was a large number of apoptotic cells in rabbit small intestinal mucosal epithelium, gut associated lymphoid tissue and lymphocytes in the lumbrical process, especially in the middle and distal portions of the intestine. These change might be the cellular basis of postburn intestinal translocation of bacteria and endotoxin.

ABSTRACT

Objective To detect the mutant prevention concentration (MPC) of macrolide resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, to amplify the resistance gene of Streptococcus pneumoniae mutants selected in the mutant selection window (MSW), and to investigate the mechanism in the resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae to macrolides. Methods The Streptococcus pneumoniae strain ATCC49619 was enriched in broth, and the bacterial concentrations were adjusted to 1010 colony forming units per milliliter. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), MIC for 99 % of input cells (MIC99), provisional MPC (MPCpr), and MPC of roxithromycin and azithromycin for Streptococcus pneumoniae were determined by agar plate dilution method. The ermB and mefA of Streptococcus pneumoniae mutants selected in the MSW were obtained by PCR method and sequencing. Results The MPCs of roxithromycin and azithromycin for ATCC49619 were 0.80 ?g/ml and 0.51 ?g/ml, and the MPC/MIC99 were 5.0 and 3.9. The ermB gene was detected in Streptococcus pneumoniae mutants selected in the MSW. Conclusion Adjustment of the drug dose may limit the enrichment of macrolide-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae mutant. The mechanism in the resistance of Streptococcus pneumonia to macrolides may be associated with ermB genes carried.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Zhenzhu Qishi Wan on blood pressure(BP), body weight(BW), stroke and survival rate of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertension rats(SHRsp).

METHOD8-week-old SHRsp was randomly divided into three groups: control group, Zhenzhu Qishi Wan prevention group and therapy group (n = 10). SHRsp of prevention group were treated with Zhenzhu Qishi Wan by ig 150 mg.kg-1 per day for 6 weeks, and therapy group were given the same treatment two weeks later. Behavior and stroke were observed everyday; BW were weighted every week; BP were estimated every 2 weeks. Time of the first cerebral seizure of SHRsp was recorded.

RESULTZhenzhu Qishi Wan had obvious preventive and therapeutic effect on genetic hypertension. The BP of prevention and therapy groups were significantly lower than that of control group (P < 0.05 [symbol: see text] P < 0.01). The drug ameliorated general behavior of SHRsp, BW of prevention group increased faster than that of control group(P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), and BW of therapy group were also heavier than that of control group at the age of 14 weeks(P < 0.05). When the experiment ended, 60% SHRsp of control group showed stroke and 20% of them were dead, while only 20% SHRsp in each of Zhenzhu Qishi Wan-treated groups showed stroke and none of them died.

CONCLUSIONZhenzhu Qishi Wan had significant hypotensive effect, and some protective effect on the stroke caused by hypertension.
