Educación sanitaria sobre embarazo y aborto a alumnas de décimo grado del Instituto Preuniversitario Urbano Ramón Campa Delgado / Health care education on pregnancy and abortion for 10th grade students of Ramón Campa Delgado urban high school Institute

Se realizó una intervención educativa en 42 adolescentes del sexo femenino, que cursaban el décimo grado en el Instituto Preuniversitario Urbano Ramón Campa Delgado de Palma Soriano, provincia de Santiago de Cuba, desde abril hasta junio del 2008, a fin de modificar sus conocimientos sobre embarazo y aborto. Se aplicó un cuestionario antes y después de la etapa de intervención, para poder valorar los cambios producidos. Para el análisis estadístico se utilizó el porcentaje como medida de resumen y se aplicó el test de Mc Nemar, con un nivel de significación de 95 porciento. Se concluyó que la intervención educativa contribuyó a modificar significativamente los conocimientos de las adolescentes sobre los importantes asuntos tratados y se recomendó extender este tipo de estudio a las instituciones de educación secundaria y preuniversitaria para lograr aumentar la percepción de riesgo sobre el aborto y reducir la morbilidad en esta población.

A teaching intervention in 42 adolescents of the female sex, that were in 10th grade in Ramón Campa Delgado urban high school Institute from Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba province, was conducted from April to June, 2008, aiming at modifying their knowledge on pregnancy and abortion. A questionnaire was applied before and after the period of intervention, to assess the changes that occurred. For the statistical analysis the porcentage was used as a summary and the Mc Nemar test was applied, with a 95 per cent significance level. The conclusion was that the teaching intervention contributed to modify significantly the knowledge of the adolescents on the important issues treated and it was recommended to extend this type of study to the junior high school institutions and senior high school institutions to increase the risk perception on abortion and reduce the morbidity in this population.

Modificación de conocimientos sobre conducta suicida en adolescentes y adultos jóvenes con riesgo / Modification to knowledge of suicidal behavior in teenagers and young adults at risk

Se realizó una intervención educativa durante el 2005 en 30 de 225 adolescentes y adultos jóvenes con riesgo de conducta suicida, pertenecientes a 7 consultorios médicos del Policlínico Docente Rafael Pantoja Ruiz del municipio de Palma Soriano, con vista a evaluar sus conocimientos sobre esa forma de atentar contra su vida. Se utilizó el porcentaje como medida de resumen de la información obtenida a través de un cuestionario empleado antes y después de la intervención, así como también se aplicó la prueba de Mc Nemar con un nivel de significación de 95 por ciento. Los resultados de las acciones educativas para modificar esa actitud inadecuada fueron muy favorables, al ser considerados como altamente significativos.

An educational intervention was carried out in 30 of 225 teenagers and young adults at risk of suicidal behavoir during 2005, who belonged to 7 doctor´s offices from Rafael Pantoja Ruiz Polyclinic of Palma Soriano municipality, in order to evaluate their knowledge of that form of making an attempt on their lives. The percentage was used as a summary measure of the information obtained through a questionnaire used before and after the intervention and Mc Nemar´s test was applied with a 95 percent significance level as well. The results of educational actions to modify that inappropriate conduct were very favorable as they were considered highly significant.

Intervención educativa sobre hepatitis viral A en escolares de séptimo grado / Educational intervention on Viral Hepatitis A in seventh grade students

Se efectuó una intervención educativa en una muestra de 44 educandos seleccionados aleatoriamente de 149 estudiantes de séptimo grado de la Escuela Secundaria Básica Urbana Emma Rosa Chuy Arnau, perteneciente al Policlínico Palma Sur Carlos René Montalván Carnero del municipio Palma Soriano, durante el período abril – junio del 2007, a fin de modificar sus conocimientos sobre algunos de los aspectos primordiales de la hepatitis viral A. Se aplicó un cuestionario antes y después de la etapa de intervención y se concluyó que la acción educativa modificó satisfactoriamente los conocimientos de los escolares, al proporcionarles una amplia y adecuada información sobre la enfermedad, por lo cual se recomendó extender esta valiosa experiencia a otras áreas donde dicha afección constituya un problema de salud.

An educational intervention was carried out in a sample of 44 randomly selected students from 149 seventh graders of Emma Rosa Chuy Arnau Junior High School belonging to Carlos René Montalván Carnero Palma Sur Polyclinic from Palma Soriano municipality, during the period from April to June, 2007, in order to modify their knowledge of some of the main aspects on the viral hepatitis A. A questionnaire was applied before and after the intervention stage and it was concluded that the educational action modified satisfactorily the knowledge of the students, as a wide and appropriate information on the illness was provided to them, that is why it was recommended to extend this valuable experience to other areas where this disease constitutes a health problem.
