ABSTRACT

Tuberculosis (TB) of pancreas is a rare presentation in both immune-competent and immune-suppressed patients. Its presenting clinical features are usually vague and non-specific, while radiological features mimic other common pancreatic conditions such as malignancy, so it is often misdiagnosed. It commonly involves the head and the uncinate process of the pancreas. We report a middle-aged immune-compromised man who presented with left-sided tubercular pleural effusion and later was diagnosed as pancreatitis by clinical presentation and TB of pancreas on computed tomography of the abdomen.

Encephalopathy following snakebite is infrequent. Neurotoxicity due to snakebite is well-known with varied presentation and fatality. We report a case of young male presenting with respiratory failure and neuromuscular paralysis, who later developed diffuse encephalopathy, convulsions and right-sided hemiparesis. Toxic effect of venom can be a possible cause for this rare presentation.

ABSTRACT

Majority of disappearing computed tomography (CT) lesions in India have been most likely linked to infectious etiology. Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is among the common infections of the central nervous system (CNS) and seizures are the most common clinical manifestation. A patient who presented with seizures was evaluated with serial imaging studies, which revealed a small mass lesion that disappeared twice which is not a common presentation, hence this case has been reported.

Reports of cerebral stroke following thinner ingestion have almost never been reported. A healthy male presented to us with unconsciousness and hemiplegia following deliberate ingestion of paint thinner. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of head revealed cerebral infarct and multifocal oedema.

ABSTRACT

In view of the increasing number of case reports of hair dye poisoning it is important to sensitise medical professionals and toxicologists about its potentially lethal toxicity, and guidelines pertaining to management. Most permanent hair dyes contain paraphenylenediamine, which is nephrotoxic. The main aim of this communication is to create awareness amongst the medical fraternity regarding hair dye poisoning, so that cases of accidental or deliberate ingestion can be readily diagnosed and effectively treated.
