ABSTRACT
Introdução: o uso terapêutico de animais na saúde é utilizado há décadas. Apesar dos benefícios, a presença de animais em serviços é questionada, tendo em vista o risco de infecções. Objetivo: relatar a implantação das atividades assistidas por animais em Unidade de Cuidados Paliativos. Métodos: relato de experiência acerca da implantação das visitas terapêuticas de cães a pacientes internados. Resultados e discussões: houve relatos de pacientes, acompanhantes e funcionários favoráveis à continuação do projeto. Não foram relatados incidentes com relação a comportamento dos cães e não foram registrados surtos de infecções. Considerações: iniciativas como esta são estimulantes e desafiadoras.
Introduction: the therapeutic use of animals in health has been used for decades. Despite the benefits, the presence of animals in services is questioned, given the risk of infections. Objective: to report the implementation of animal assisted activities in the Palliative Care Unit. Methods: report of experience about the implantation of the therapeutic visits of dogs to inpatients. Results and discussions: there were reports of patients, companions and employees favorable to the continuation of the project. No incidents were reported regarding dog behavior and no infection outbreaks were reported. Considerations: initiatives like this are stimulating and challenging.
