ABSTRACT
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal en el Hospital Docente Clínico Quirúrgico "Amalia Simoni" de Camagüey, desde enero de 2002 a diciembre del 2004, con el objetivo de conocer el comportamiento de la neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica. El universo del evento se representó por los pacientes que recibieron ventilación mecánica en el servicio de terapia intensiva en el y los que desarrollaron neumonía nosocomial relacionada con la ventilación, a partir de los cuales se diseñó una muestra de 72 pacientes. Se realizaron cultivos de secreciones endotraqueales a través de aspirado traqueal cuantitativo. La enfermedad cerebrovascular fue la principal causa que motivó la ventilación mecánica. El 76.5 % desarrolló la infección en los primeros seis días de ventilados, el Acinetobacter y el Enterobacter spp fueron los gérmenes más frecuentes. La tasa de letalidad se comportó en el 61.1 %.
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at "Amalia Simoni" Surgical Clinical Educational Hospital of Camagüey, from January 2002 to December 2004, with the objective to know the behavior of the associated pneumonia to the mechanical ventilation. The universe of the event was represented for the patients that received mechanical ventilation in the intensive care service and the ones that developed nosocomial pneumonia related to the ventilation, from which a sample of 72 patients was designed. Endotracheal secretions cultures were carried out through the quantitative tracheal aspirate. The cerebrovascular illness was the main cause that motivated the mechanical ventilation. The 76.5% of the patients developed the infection in the first six days of ventilation, the Acinetobacter and the Enterobacter spp were the most frequent germs. Lethality rate behaved in the 61.1%.
