A mulher, o médico e as historiadoras: um ensaio historiográfico sobre a história das mulheres, da medicina e do gênero / Women, male doctors, and female historians: a historiographic essay on the history of women, medicine, and gender

Resumo O artigo realiza um balanço historiográfico parcial sobre um campo de estudos prolífico e heterogêneo, a história das mulheres, da ciência e da medicina, articulado politicamente com o feminismo e de autoria majoritariamente feminina. Pretende apresentar as principais correntes desse campo que se constitui e consolida na segunda metade do século XX, como o contexto histórico de sua produção, definição de temas, referências teóricas, fontes e problemas de pesquisa. Tendo em vista sua extensão, o artigo concentrou-se na produção bibliográfica em língua inglesa, destacando as diferenças de abordagens e as contribuições teóricas e metodológicas mais expressivas.

Abstract The article presents a partial historiographical review of the history of women, science, and medicine, a prolific, heterogeneous field of studies that intersects politically with feminism and has been written mostly by women. This survey presents the main streams of thought in the field, which established itself in the second half of the twentieth century. It also describes the historical context in which this scholarship was produced, the topics that were defined, and the field's theoretical references, sources, and research problems. Given the vastness of this scholarship, the article focuses on writings in the English language, particularly the most expressive approaches and theoretical and methodological contributions.

Gênero e assistência: considerações histórico-conceituais sobre práticas e políticas assistenciais / Gender and assistance: historical and conceptual considerations regarding assistance practices and policies

Propõe uma reflexão teórica e histórica a partir da conjunção do conceito de gênero e da noção de assistência. Analisa as dimensões políticas dos dois conceitos, problematizando a dicotomia entre político e pré-político, com suas marcas distintivas de gênero, de grande influência na teoria política e no pensamento moderno. Examina as práticas do cuidar pelo Estado moderno, bem como as transformações da assistência no interior das organizações caritativas e benemerentes que se constituem paralelamente e em consonância com as ações do Estado.

The article offers some theoretical and historical reflections on the concept of gender as it relates to the notion of assistance. Explores the political dimensions of both concepts and problematizes the dichotomy between the gender-marked realms of the political and the pre-political, a dichotomy that has greatly influenced modern political theory and thought. It examines the modern state's care practices and the transformations in assistance which occurred within the charitable and assistance organizations that took shape in parallel and in consonance with this state action.

Políticas públicas para a maternidade e a infância no Brasil na primeira metade do século XX / Public policies for the maternity and the childhood in Brasil in the first half of the XX century

Foi no contexto da formulação da questão social e do enfrentamento da pauperização urbana, entre o final do século XIX e as primeiras décadas do século XX, que a maternidade e a infância deixaram de ser assuntos exclusivos da esfera familiar e passaram a integrar as agendas de médicos, ativistas feministas, filantropos, Estados e organismos internacionais que surgiram após a Primeira Guerra Mundial, como a Organização Internacional do Trabalho (OIT). O objetivo deste artigo, portanto, é, primeiro, entender por que este processo ocorreu e, segundo, analisar as políticas públicas materno-infantis formuladas no Brasil na primeira metade do século XX, procurando compreendê-las a partir da organização de uma estrutura burocrático-administrativa e da legislação social criada da década de 1920 em diante.

"Vamos criar seu filho": os médicos puericultores e a pedagogia materna no século XX / \"Let's raise your child\": puericulture doctors and maternal pedagogy in the twentieth century

Analisa a produção da literatura médica de aconselhamento para as mães com o objetivo de ensiná-las a criar seus filhos. Tratando de assuntos como alimentação, vestuário, higiene e comportamento, os médicos puericultores acreditavam que somente o amor não era suficiente para uma boa formação e educação dos filhos. Como portadores da verdade científica e da técnica, os médicos procuraram ensinar as mães a seguirem os princípios da puericultura, contribuindo sobremaneira para a constituição da mãe-enfermeira, ideal preconizado pelos autores de três manuais publicados entre 1938 e 1963.

The article addresses the production of medical literature that offered advice on how mothers should raise their children. Doctors specializing in puericulture - educating mothers about topics like food, dress, hygiene, and behavior - believed that love alone was not enough to provide children with good training and education. As representatives of scientific truth and technique, these doctors tried to teach mothers to act according to the principles of puericulture, contributing primarily to the construction of the mother-nurse, an ideal endorsed by the authors of the three manuals published between 1938 and 1963 that are analyzed in this article.
