ABSTRACT

The increasing amount of scientific collaboration has led to an increase in the quality of scientific publications. The goal of this article is to analyze the co-authorship patterns and networks in SBUMS's scientific publications in WOS from 2009 to 2013. Hence, the co-authorship indicators and ratio of national to international collaborations are determined. This research is a descriptive survey including scientometric approaches. HistCite and NWB software is used to draw and analyze the networks. The findings show that the scientific publications of SBUMS are 6633 publications. The most productive authors are Fereidoun Azizi and Mohamad Reza Zali. The maximum number of scientific publications is allocated to the articles written by more than 5 authors. Collaborative Index [CI], Degree of Collaboration [DC], and Collaborative Coefficient [CC] are 4.27, 0.96, and 0.71 respectively. The ratio of national to international collaborations is 4.78. In co-authorship networks, there are 12825 nodes [authors] that are linked with 97618 edges. The highest degree and betweenness centrality belongs to Masjedi showing the communication paths of other nodes overtaking them. The most international collaboration belongs to the USA. The collaboration of authors in SBUMS is almost good but the international collaboration is not so. Encouraging policies for the further collaboration of authors surely leads to increasing the quality and quantity of the scientific publications. It is recommended to repeat the network analysis in different periods of time

ABSTRACT

Minutes of educational councils in universities always contain valuable organizational knowledge and play an important role in micro and macro educational decision makings. Lack of storage system, organization and retrieval of these documents can be a major obstacle in the way of utilizing these precious documents. Designing and implementing of an appropriate software to manage minutes of educational councils can facilitate classifying these important documents and ease the access and visibility of their content as well. Therefore based on the structure and the content of educational council minutes of one school of medical sciences universities as a sample and the views of key stakeholders, researchers tried to design and implement a software for information and decisions management of minutes. This research is of developmental- applied type. In order to design the software, object-oriented analysis is used. In the analysis step, at first requirements are identified, extracted and defined based on the descriptive cataloging and subject analyzing of educational councils minutes and after final analysis, the required diagrams were drawn. Software architecture is determined based on the list of requirements and finally the drawn diagrams are converted to programming codes using C# programming language. In the end, the produced software has been tested to ensure its adaptation to the objectives of project and the defined requirements. In this study, it was tried that the designed software leads to the development of electronic database for minutes in order that the universities could have access to content and decisions of these meetings in due time and in appropriate manner. Despite the numerous capabilities of this software, it seems necessary that it be used more widely in order that we could review its improvement and optimization during its implementation in the actual operating environment. Subsequently, it is recommended that Universities of Medical Sciences use the software for information management and their educational meetings to facilitate the process of organizing, storing and retrieving of the documents. They can also contribute to the process of software upgrade for educational meetings in other universities

ABSTRACT

University theses and dissertations are among those credible sources of information which, with regard to their given status of value, and the use of update resources using the international regulations and standards, can be perfect sources for optimal recovery of information and can increase the scientific credibility


This study reviews the accordance of the Pharmaceutical theses of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and the University of Tehran with the ISO 7144 standards: 2008-2012. 765 pharmaceutical theses of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and the University of Tehran at both general and specialized levels were studied, using an analytical method. Data collection was based on the checklist prepared according to ISO 7144 standards. The comparisons were performed based on the t-test, using SPSS software. The results manifested that the theses done at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences adhered more to the ISO standards compared to the University of Tehran. The study also revealed that the mean score of the adherence to the standards of ISO has been more in specialized theses than the general ones. Moreover, it suggests that, due to their scientific and practical nature, theses are among the most important sources, and therefore, the manner through which the data is inserted, is of utmost importance


The accordance of the studied theses of both general and specialized themes in both universities to ISO 7144 standards is below the %50 of the desired standard and has a long way to go to reach the desired status?

ABSTRACT

Visualization of scientific maps enhances the awareness and general recognition of the scientific domains and their structures. It facilitates the study of the existing situation and planning of the future researches as well. The present study sought to discover and generate the scientific map of medicine in Iran between 2003 and 2007. It also aimed to determine the most effective medical subject categories in the map generated. The study follows a scientometrics trend in which all published articles of Iran indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded [SCIE] between 2003 and 2007 were retrieved. Then, these articles were limited to medical subject categories through the result analysis section of SCIE and 10247 articles were retrieved in medical subject categories as research population. NWB [Network Workbench Tool] software and ISI medical subject category co-citation were used for analyzing the articles in medicine and generating scientific maps. The scientific medical map showed that there were 61 nodes and 164 links with a weight ranging from 101 to 591. 31 nodes depicted one medical subject category, while the other nodes covered non-medical, or a combination of medical and non-medical subject categories. Medical subject categories with the highest impact included general and internal medicine, pharmacology and pharmacy, biochemistry and molecular biology, neurosciences, and research and experimental medicine. The strongest links were visible in general and internal medicine, with public, occupational, and environmental health; general and internal medicine with pharmacology and pharmacy; and pharmacology and pharmacy with neurosciences. The quantitative growth in medical articles alongside their quality is effective in scientific maps. It is necessary to encourage the categories with more effective and support the subject categories with the least impact to publish more articles and get more citation

ABSTRACT

Investigation of the web impact factor and analysis of the web links belong to webometric studies. A high impact factor, accompanied by more frequent links to a particular website, can indicate greater influence and better accessibility of that particular site. In this regard, bearing in mind the significance of medical universities' web sites for education and research, the current study compared and analyzed their impact factors, their web links and web pages, using AltaVista search engine. The investigation included different ranks of medical universities, commonly referred to as type 1, type 2 and type 3 universities in Iran. The median was used as a measure of central tendency of the scores. The search engines of AltaVista were adopted on 26 February 2010 to collect the data. According to the results, in terms of indexed pages, Shahid Baheshti of type 1, Guilan of type 2, and Shahrekord of type 3 universities had the best records. Regarding web links, medical universities of Iran, Kermanshah and Lorestan, from type 1, type 2 and type 3 universities had the best records and, in terms of impact factor, universities of Ahvaz [type 1], Zahedan [type 2], and Fessa [type 3] manifested the greatest influence. As the results imply, the universities are expected to pay more attention to webometric issues; they are also recommended to allocate more budget to enhance their web pages

ABSTRACT

The indexed scientific publication in valid information databases like ISI is an important scale for rating universities. Publication of scientific productions in these databases increases accessability, resulting in greater citation. In this survey, the status of publishing and citing of the SBMU [Shahid Beheshti Medical University] articles from 1997 to 2007 has been studied. The findings are expected to be useful for SBMU schedules and policy making decisions in future. This is a descriptive scientometric survey of all the articles published by SBMU members in the citation indexes of ISI from 1998 to 2007. The findings have been reported, using descriptive statistics. A total of 1431 articles were investigated. According to the results, the rate of SBMU articles has increased considerably in the study period. Most articles have been published in "American journal of Gastroenterology" and"Journal of Endourology" [each with 35 articles, comprising 2.5% of the articles]. All of the articles were in English and most in the field of pharmacology and pharmacy. In 70% of the articles, SBMU researchers were the first author. Most rating citations belong to the articles published in 2006 while articles of 2003 have the highest rate of indexing. The citation diagram shows an increasing curve. The number of article publications and their citations has increased during 1997-2007 which may be an indicative of encouragements and supports provided for the researchers by the university
