ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Although nursing presence is a foundation for professional nursing practice and has known positive outcomes such as patient satisfaction and recovery; it is not well known. The ambiguity surrounding how to define nursing presence has challenged its evaluation and education. Therefore, in an attempt to discover attributes of this underdeveloped concept and studying it in a new context, concept development is essential. The purpose of this study was to clarify the concept of nursing presence through concept development, to produce a tentative definition of this subjective concept in clinical practice. METHODS: Concept development was carried out using Schwartz-Barcott and Kim's hybrid model including, theoretical, fieldwork and final analysis phases. First, 29 related articles available on the databases from 1990–2015 were reviewed and analyzed. Then, 22 interviews were conducted with 19 participants, followed with inductive content analysis. At last, an overall definition was performed. RESULTS: Nursing presence can be explained as co-constructed interaction identified by deliberate focus, task-oriented/patient-oriented relationship, accountability, clarification, and ubiquitous participation. Nursing presence requires clinical competence, self-actualization, reciprocating openness, and conducive working environment. Worthwhile communications, balance/recovery, and growth and transcendence are the main consequences of this concept. CONCLUSION: Co-constructed interaction underscored the value of the nursing presence as an integral component of caring with humanistic and patient-centered approaches. The findings could help clinical nurses have a better understanding of the nursing presence. Findings also can improve educators' and managers' knowledge for developing and conducting appropriate education strategies and caring activities to facilitate the promotion of nursing presence.

ABSTRACT

Background: Obesity is a chronic disease and a public health problem that is introduced as an important risk factor for catching obstructive sleep apnea [OSA] in some studies. The present study was done to investigate the relationship between obesity and OSA in depressed elderly patients

Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from 2014 to 2015 on 175 depressed elderly patients referred to health centers of Saqqez, using clustering and available sampling in saqqez. Demographic form, Geriatric Depression Scale [GDS] and Berlin Questionnaire were used to gather the data. Data were analyzed by SPSS [version 18] using descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov Smirinov, Mann Whitney- U, Chi-square and Exact Fischer tests. P- value less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant

Results: 175 elderly depressed patients with mean age [+/- standard deviation] of 69.42+/-8 years were studied. 106 peoples [60.6%] were at high risk for OSA. There was a significant relationship between OSA and obesity [P<0.05]. The odds ratio for obesity in OSA people was 2.2 compared to those without OSA [OR: 2.2; 95%CI: 1.2-4.2; p <0.05]

Conclusion: There is relationship between body mass index and OSA in depressed elderly patients

ABSTRACT

Objective [s]: The goal of this study was to translate and to evaluate Psychometrically of Iranian version of 'Health Promoting Life Style Profile 2'

Methods: This methodological survey was conducted in 2011 in 3 health centers in Tehran for estimating the construct validity, content validity and reliability with participating of612people. For the purposes of study, the questionnaire was translated. At first stage of the psychometric evaluation, content validity of the questionnaire was measured by Waltz and Bussel content validity index. In order to the evaluating reliability, for determining the external stability of this instrument, test-retest and inter class correlation coefficient were used and for determining the internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used. Construct validity indexes were calculated using confirmatory factor analysis

Results: Findings showed that internal correlation coefficient [Alpha Cronbach] was 0.95 for 'health promotion lifestyle profile 2'. Inter class correlation coefficient for the instrument subscales were between 0.67-0.87. Confirmatory factor analysis to assess the validity of the index, fitted X2 was equal to 2.58, the RMSEA index was equal to 0.05, GFI index equal to 0.83, and CFI index was equal to 0.95, respectively

Conclusion: There is high correlation between the total score of "Health promotion lifestyle profile 2" and its subscale scores
