ABSTRACT

@#Most insects have a stinging apparatus at the tail end of their abdominal segment and can deliver venom. The venom can usually result in pain, erythema, abscess, or allergic reaction in human tissues such as the skin and even the lips. The presentation of lip abscess, especially in the vermilion, is rare and needs to be appropriately managed. A 39-year-old prediabetic male presented with a swollen right lower lip stung by an insect six days before the consult. The swelling started as a vesicle which became bigger, then burst, exuding a yellowish fluid and blood. The swollen area became more significant, and pain was felt. The clinical presentation was that of a lower lip abscess. Adequate antibiotics were prescribed along with a corticosteroid and a topical antiseptic. The treatment was essential to prevent the dissemination of infection and the likelihood of tissue necrosis. This case report is presented as a rare clinical case of a lower lip abscess due to an insect sting with spontaneous drainage after treatment in a prediabetic male. The dentist and clinician needed to identify this condition and to manage the case properly.

@#Introduction: Meloxicam is a NSAID which able to inhibit the cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2). The purpose of this research is to explain the effect of Meloxicam in inhibit the growth of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) induced by benzopyrenes. The apoptosis and proliferation of OSCC, the p53, Ras and COX-2 expression used as indicator. Methods: male mice were induced by benzopyrene 10 mg/kg body weight was given topically on buccal mucosa 2 times a week for 4 weeks for induced the OSCC. Meloxicam was given orally with 3 different doses was 50mg/kg, 100mg/kg, and 200mg/kg.b.w given once a day for 60 days. The control groups were given with CMC-1% 0.1ml/10g body weight. The buccal mucosa then biopsy and staining with immunohistochemistry to analyzed the p53, Ras, COX-2 expression, apoptosis and proliferation of OSCC. Results: The increase of Meloxicam dose is proportional to the increase in wild p53 expression and apoptosis, and inversely proportional to the expression of mutant race, cox-2 and the proliferation of OSCC. Conclusion: Meloxicam able to inhibit the growth of OSCC induced by benzopyrenes.

@#Introduction: Cancer is a deadly disease, caused by benzopyrene which found in cigarettes. The moderate intensity of exercise can affect cancer growth, but how the role it to p53 mutant is not clear. This research proved the expression of p53 mutant in Mus musculus by moderate intensity of exercise. Method: Eighteen animals, were divided into three groups namely, group A, injected by oleum olivarium in the upper buccal mucosa and not given moderate intensity of exercise and benzopyrene; group B, injected benzopyrenes in the same regio, not given moderate intensity of exercise; group C injected benzopyrenes in same region, given moderate intensity of exercise. Moderate intensity of exercise given 3 times every week for 3 months. Oleum olivarum and benzopyrene injection, was given 3 times every week for 1 month, starting at week 5. At the beginning of the 13th week, a bend was taken in the right upper buccal mucosa, then the tissue was processed, painted by immunohistochemical methods. p53 mutant expression was determined by looking at preparations, using an Olympus light microscope with a magnification of 400x. p53 mutan expression was observed in 10 different visual field, then the mean was taken. Result: There were differences in p53 mutant expression in the three groups (p= 0.000), and the highest expression was in group B. Conclusion: The moderate intensity of exercise could decrease p53 mutant expression on squamous cell epithelial of oral Mus musculus.
