ABSTRACT

Introduction to the theories on improving coordination level of the new rural cooperative medical system, including the risk theory, great number rule, fair theory, demand theory and supply theory which are cornerstones of enhancing the NRCMS improving the pooling level. The paper also probed into the practices of improving the pooling level of the NRCMS,including the models of high level, middle level and low level pooling. These theories and practices can help the localities better design and manage the pooling level of the NRCMS.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between occlusal plane and sagittal position of the mandible by examining dental and skeletal morphologies of average angle patients for better understanding of etiologies and definitive clinical guidelines of mandibular malpositions.

METHODSThe lateral cephalograms of 114 female average angle patients with neutral maxillary positions were selected and divided into three groups according to sagittal mandibular positions (ANB angle). Twenty-five skeletal and dental measurements were compared. The correlations between skeletal and dental measurements were analyzed by rectilinear correlation.

RESULTSCant of posterior occlusal plane (OP-P) and height of the upper second molar were significantly related to sagittal position of the mandible (P < 0.05). Height of the upper second molar was relatively inadequate and OP-P was sloped when the mandible was positioned posteriorly; conversely, height of the upper second molar was excessive and OP-P tended to be flat when the mandible was positioned anteriorly. Tooth axial inclinations were affected by sagittal position of the mandible. Maxillary teeth proclined distally and mandibular ones mesially for patients with retrognathia. On the other hand, maxillary teeth proclined mesially while mandibular ones distally for patients with prognathia.

CONCLUSIONThere was a definite relationship between cant of posterior occlusal plane and sagittal position of the mandible in average angle patients, consistent with the dental morphologies of different skeletal configurations. In treating malocclusions of sagittal discrepancy of mandible, the height of posterior teeth and cant of OP-P might be a primary concern.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVEThis study aimed at finding sensitive indicators in diagnosing facial growth pattern by studying the relationship between the indicators which can reflect facial growth pattern according to the previous studies and posterior-anterior ratio.

METHODSThe cephalometric radiographs of 61 teenage children were measured, the posterior-anterior ratio and the other 12 indicators including Y-axis angle, facial axis angle, cranial basal angle, and the four angles (The sagittal horizontal planes were analyzed using statistic methods.

RESULTSThe MP-SN angle was significantly coincided with the posterior-anterior ratio and Pearson coefficient is -0.922, and little correlation was found between the angles of four sagital horizontal planes and the posterior-anterior ratio. The positive correlation was found between the length of mandibular ramus and posterior-anterior ratio.

CONCLUSIONThe sensitive indicators for confirming facial growth pattern are the posterior-anterior ratio and the MP-SN angle.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of statins in primary and secondary stroke prevention. Methods We search in PubMed(1966—2006),Cochrane library(issue 1,2006),CNKI(1979—2006)and VIP(1989—2006)to get systematic reviews(SRs),meta-analyses and randomized controlled trials(RCTs)about statins for stroke prevention. Results We found 4 meta-analyses,8 RCTs about the primary stroke prevention and 1 Cochrane systematic review and an ongoing RCT about secondary stroke prevention. Conclusion Statins therapy can reduce the incidence of stroke, especially in high-risk patients with coronary heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.Statins have positive effect for primary stroke prevention and do not increase the incidence of hemorrhagic stroke and tumor. The clinical evidence about the effect of statins in secondary stroke prevention is insufficient. An ongoing stroke trial will provide important evidence for secondary stroke prevention.
