ABSTRACT
Neste artigo, buscamos estabelecer um ponto de encontro entre os estudos sobre a genealogia do poder e as pesquisas sobre a ética do cuidado de si, desenvolvidas pelo filósofo francês Michel Foucault , via a abordagem do biopoder, aqui entendido enquanto um colonizador da "relação consigo", no contexto das sociedades ocidentais modernas. A problemática do "cuidado de si" é por nós inicialmente abordada na cultura greco-romana, onde fazia parte de um campo ético bem particular. Percorremos, ainda, as transformações sofridas pela ética do cuidado de si, quando apropriada das estruturas do "Poder Pastoral", até as técnicas modernas de gestão da vida.
In this article we try to establish a convergence of Michael Foucault´s studies on the genealogy of power and his ethical studies related to the care of the self. We emphasize Foucault´s notion of "bio-power", understood as a sort of colonizer of the relationship one has with himself in the context of modern western societies. The ethical problem f the care of the self is initially discussed within the specificity of Roman and Greek cultures. We then consider the transformations on ethics after this care of the self is taken over by structures of the pastoral power up to modern techniques of management of life.
