ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES@#To explore the relationship between the height of alveolar bone resorption and sex and age in the adolescent dentition.@*METHODS@#Multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) was used to measure the height of alveolar bone resorption at labial, lingual, mesial and distal sites of teeth in 149 adolescents aged from 10 to 20 years. SPSS 25.0 software was used to analyze the relationship between the height of alveolar bone resorption and sex and age.@*RESULTS@#There was no significant difference in the height of alveolar bone resorption between sex (P>0.05). The height of alveolar bone resorption was positively correlated with age in all types of teeth. The model constructed by combining the alveolar bone resorption height data of four sites (y=2.569x1+3.106x2+4.108x3+1.451x4-0.082, R2max=0.756)had a better ability to infer age than that of combining two sites (y=5.942x1+4.489x2+0.612, R2max=0.706) and a single site (R2max=0.638).@*CONCLUSIONS@#The height of alveolar bone resorption is positively correlated with the age of adolescents. The combination of four sites has a stronger ability to infer the relationship between the height of alveolar bone resorption and age in adolescents and has higher accuracy in practical application.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES@#To estimate lung volume in normal population by a combination of multi-slice spiral CT and Pulmo software.@*METHODS@#Scans of the lung were performed on 45 normal individuals using Emotion 16-slice spiral CT and Pulmo software. A measurement instrument of work station was used to measure the vertical diameter of left and right lungs, the maximum anteroposterior and transverse diameters at the layers of apex pulmonis 1 cm below, arcus aortae, subcarinal and diaphragmatic dome, and the lung volume. Regression analysis was performed on normal lung volume and each measured parameter by SPSS 20.0 and an optimal model was selected.@*RESULTS@#The goodness of fit between the best curvilinear equations of the normal bilateral lung volumes was 0.981. The goodness of fit between the curvilinear equations of the normal bilateral lung volume and the product of the vertical diameter and the maximum transverse diameter of diaphragmatic dome were 0.977 and 0.972, respectively. Fifteen cases were selected to make a retrospective test on the 3 models. No significant difference was found between the estimated and measured with Pulmo software lung volumes.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The normal lung volume before injury can be estimated by the curvilinear equations established in this study. The percentage of lung compression can be measured based on the volume of compressed lung, which can provide a reference for the identification of lung compression degree.

ABSTRACT

Plasmodium falciparum is one of the main parasitic pathogens worldwide. Artemisinin derivatives are the first-line antimalarial drug. Recently, Plasmodium falciparum has been found to be tolerant to the treatment with artemisinin derivatives and its combination with piperaquine in several countries and regions. Scientists have found gene mutations associated with resistance of Plasmodium falciparum to artemisinin derivatives; however the mechanism of piperaquine resistance remains to be further studied. This review sums up the epidemic status and mechanism research of the resistance of Plasmodium falciparum to artemisinin derivatives and piperaquine.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the efficacy and safety of SIMI mouthguard paint(test group) in the treatment of enamel demineralization during orthodontic therapy with fixed applince.Methods:152 cases underwent orthodontic therapy with fixed applince were included in a randomized, open, positive control trial, and were treated by SIMI and Duraphant fluoride toothpast (control group) respectively(n =76).The enamel opaque spot was observed before and 3 months after using the products. The oral mucosa reactions, asthma attacks or stomach nausea and other adverse events were recorded.Results:150 cases (n =75) completed the trial. The results showed that the test group was non-inferior compared with the control group. No adverse event was found in both groups. Conclusion:SIMI mouthguard paint is effective in control of enamel demineralization during orthodontic therapy with fixed applince.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo identify the causes of respiratory complications following liver transplantation (LT) and to discuss the management of these complications.

METHODSOne hundred and twenty four cases with pulmonary complications in the first two weeks after LT were identified among 163 patients admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University from February, 1999 to March, 2003.

RESULTSThe incidence rate of complications was 76%(124/163) with the total cure rate of 92%(114/124). The cure rates of the various complications were as follows: pleural effusion 100%(113/113), pneumonia 92%(76/83), respiratory insufficiency 91%(59/65), pulmonary hypertension 98%(101/103), pulmonary edema 98(58/59), atelectasis 100%(4/4) and pneumothorax 100%(2/2).

CONCLUSIONTo drainage the pleural effusion with an unicameral venous catheter is safety and effective. To cure or prevent pneumonia and atelectasis, aseptic manipulating, aspiration of sputum and keeping respiratory channel open were the key measurements of treatment. Restrictive ventilatory functional disturbance (RVFD) and dysfunction of ventilation are two major types of respiratory insufficiency in early stage of post-transplantation. The causes of pulmonary hypertension and edema are associated with pulmonary angiotasis and blood flow volume, and the vasodilator and diuretic often introduced in the therapy.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare and assess the antihypertentive efficacy and safety of barnidipine hydrochloride and felodipine in the elderly hypertentive patients. Methods 69 elderly patients(60-75 years old ) with mild or moderate essential hypertension were selected and randomly assigned to two groups, one was medicated with barnidipine (36 patients) and another (33 patients) with felodipine. Placeboes were given for 2 weeks, then the testees were administered barnidipine 10mg/d or felodipine 5mg/d for 2 weeks, followed by an increased administration of dose titration to barnidipine 15mg/d or felodipine 10mg/d for another 2 weeks in those patients with DBP≥90mmHg. Both groups were administered once daily. Results After 4 weeks administration no statistical difference was found on the total effectiveness between barnidipine and felodipine groups (100.0% vs 93.9%). Both SBP and DBP declined by 20.7?7.8mmHg and 17.6?4.5mmHg respectively in barnidipine group, and 20.2?9.6mmHg and 17.6?6.1mmHg respectively in felodipine group. The decline of blood pressure showed no significant difference between the two groups. The mild harmful respond occurred in 4 of 36 patients of barnidipine group (11.1%), and in 3 of 33 patients of felodipine group(9.1%).Conclusion The results suggested that barnidipine is effective and well tolerated in antihypertension of the old patients.
