ABSTRACT

The present work comprises the synthesis of 6,11-dihydro-5H-pyrido [2,3-b] [1,5] benzodiazepine-5-one derivatives 5-7 by condensation of 2-chloro-4,6-dimethylnicotinic acid [1] with 1,2-phenylenediamines 2-4 using t-butoxyethanol as solvent. Monoalkylation of 5-7 using one equivalent of the appropriate alkyl halide and 30% NaOH in dimethylsulfoxide gave the 6-alkyl derivatives 8-19. Some of the prepared compounds were preliminary screened for CNS depressant and anticonvulsant activities

ABSTRACT

Essential microminerals [trace elements] play an important role in the growth of normal cells, the study of microminerals in 8 transparent Fens and in 56 senile cataractous lenses by the pye unicam atomic absorption spectrophotometer showed a significant decrease of copper from 16.93 micro-gram/g moist T. in the transparent lenses to 7.06 microgram/g moist T. in cataractous lenses.zine decrease from 95.46 microgram/g moist T. to 71.7 micro-gram/g moist T., while the study of manganese content showed non significant changes

ABSTRACT

Thirty six patients presenting with solitary lytic bone lesions were studied clinically, radiologically and histopathologically. The availability of the histopathological diagnosis together with radiological and clinical data was found to be essential for proper diagnosis. Five different lines of treatment were performed. The first group underwent meticulous curettage and filling of the cavity with bone chips followed by immobilization. In the second group which presented with pathological fracture of the neck of the humerous, a deltopectoral approach was used without exposure of the shoulder joint, then an iliac graft was introduced into the medullary cavity reaching the epiphyseal plate and a shoulder spica was applied. In the third group curettage, internal fixation and iliac graft were done. In the fourth group segmental excision was performed and in the fifth group, which consisted of cases of Brodie's abcess, either saucerization and curettage or curettage and bone chips were the lines of treatment. Follow up was continued for 30-36 months, no recurrance or malignant transformation occurred

ABSTRACT

Follow up study for 26 knees treated by TCR. Seven patients suffered from bilateral knee affection, and twelve were unilateral. Fourteen females and five males, twenty two were rheumatoid arthritis and four osteoarthritis. The youngest patient rheumatoid arthritis was 27 years old, the oldest one osteoarthritis was 62 years old. All cases were followed for average 21 months clinical evaluations were assessed according to the knee function assessment chart suggested by British orthopaedics Association. TCR shows it to be effective in achieving the aims desired in total knee arthroplasty. Decreased pain and improved function relatively few complications have been noted in most of the patients

ABSTRACT

Forty-Eight cases of recent open tibial shaft fracture were managed by immediate internal fixation using the Dynamic Compression Plate combined with tension device. All cases were followed up for a period ranging from 3-12 months. Primary skin healing occurred in 32 cases. 66% of patients were allowed to walk with non-weight bearing by the end of the third week. Primary bone healing was noticed radiologically in 32 cases by the end of the third month. Therefore the technique recommended by the A O Group is a reliable treatment for recent open tibial shaft fractures
