ABSTRACT

The vast majority of the patients population presenting with otolaryngologiocal problems has been treated effectively and efficiently in day care programme in the west. This practice has been lacking in Pakistan. A prospective study was undertaken the patient compliance, the severity of postoperative problems, patients education, training of the staff, the overall efficacy of the unit for Day care surgery. Prospective data of 104 patients is presented who were treated successfully with various ailments of otolaryngology in the day care surgery unit of the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi. All the patients had successful outcome except for one where over night observation was felt necessary for severe pain following tonsillectomy
