ABSTRACT

22 cases were operated upon in the Unit of Cardiac Thoracic Surgery at El-Husain University Hospital in the period from January 1993 to December 1994 on an emergency basis. All were seriously ill and needed immediate surgery. Patients were divided into 3 groups: Those who had previous open heart surgery [9 cases], those who were complicated balloon maneuvers [7 cases], and 6 cases were referred due to dangerous AV valve obstructions. Groups were illustrated and the results explained. The overall mortality rate was 13.6%
