ABSTRACT

Massage is the oldest form of medical care. Massage is systemized manipulation of soft tissues for the purpose of normalizing them. Massage improves circulation and brings fresh air to the body, it assists in elimination of waste products and speeds up healing after injury and enhances the recovery from the disease. In this paper, history, types of massage, benefits and effects of massage will be described from Unani and modern point of view

ABSTRACT

Lavandula stoechas also called Arabian or French Lavender, Ustukhuddus, or Jaroob-e-dimagh, belongs to the Family Lamiaceae/Labiatae. It is a fragrant herb 0.6 to 0.9 m high, native of Mediterranean region, reported to be imported in Bombay and grown in gardens of India. Nowadays it is also cultivated in other tropical areas of the world. In Unani system of medicine, whole herb or its flowers alone are used medicinally as described in ancient Unani literature. The plant is claimed to remove obstructions, strengthen brain activity, expel brain crudities and improve the intellect. It is regarded as a good stimulant, aromatic, general carminative, diaphoretic, expectorant, antispasmodic and emmenagogue. The oil from the flower is considered useful in colic and chest affections and to relieve biliousness and nervous headache. It is also used as moth repellant. Its flowers are used in medicated pillows or cushions, herb sachets, and medicated powders. This medicinal plant is used in various Unani preparations

ABSTRACT

Unani system of medicine is a deep rooted medical system which in its various preventive, therapeutic and management techniques employ drugs of animal, plant and mineral origin. Since time immemorial Unani Medicine has played a significant role in treating several diseases including gynaecological problems. In fact, herbal remedies have been major component of health care system specially for treating gynaecological disorders. Herbal drugs, in comparison to modern medicine, are getting more attention due to their low oost factor, minimum side effects and high potentiality and therefore their use has captured the attention of modern researchers. Among several gynaecological problems, secondary amenorrhoea and dysmenorrhoea are very common for which emmenagogue drugs are prescribed by Unani practitioners. A review of classical Unani literature combined with modern researches indicate that there are a large number of emmenagogue drugs which have been found to be effective in these ailments. This articles deals with the description of conditions where emmenagogue Unani drugs are used and a list of emmenagogue Unani drugs used in different sort of ailments
