ABSTRACT
Endometrial biopsies from 40 post menopausal females suffering from vaginal bleeding were collected, formalin fixed paraffin embedded, sectioned and stained by routine haematoxylin and eosin stains, PAS, reticulin and Van-Geison's stain. Basic clinical data were collected. Cases were classified as endometrial hyperplasia [29], carcinoma [6] while five cases had shown criteria common to both atypical hyperplasia and carcinoma. PAS stain revealed PAS positive intracytoplasmic staining in cases of hyperplasia while carcinoma cases were negative. Van -Geison stain showed prominent collagen around mailgnant glands. The use of reticulin stain had ben used to differentiate between undifferentiated carcinoma and stromal sarcoma. The latter showed abundant reticulin fibres around individual cells and small cell groups
