ABSTRACT

In a world, ocular infection of Pseudomonas has been found in premature infants. This is so serious that corneal perforation and panophthalmitis are developed. And septicemia is developed. In these days, hospital infection due to pseudomonas tends to increasese. We experienced one case of pseudomonas dacryocystitis in a normal full term infant. At first, we diagnosed it as a blenorrhea neonatorum due to pseudomonas infection. And the smear of vagina of his mother was examined by Gram stain and culture. But, pseudomonas was not found. So, we considered that it was because of hospital infection. The patient was treated with carbenicillin 400 mg/day intramuscularly and 0.5% chloramphenicol solution everyone hour topically for 2 weeks. During this time there wa.s no improvement. After then we found obstruction of nasolacrimal ducts and performed probing once. After that this case was cured.

ABSTRACT

Tissue temperatures were measured by a thermistor-thermometer, at suprachoroid, inner retinal surface and intravitreous portion (1mm deep), during diathermy applications on the scleral surfaces of rabbit eyes. Castroviejo's Electro-surgical Ophthalmic unit Model S-5 was used and power intensity(current) was fixed to 2, and diathermy was applied on the sclera 3mm, 2mm, and 1mm from and above the measuring points. Measurements were performed in the following groups: Group 1: Spark gap power 2. duration of application 2 sec. Group 2: Spark gap power 2. duration of application 3 sec. Group 3: Spark gap power 3. duration of application 2 sec. Group 4: Spark gap power 3. duration of application 3 sec. Maximum rise of temperature was 20.0 degrees C at suprachoroid, 16.8 degrees C at inner retinal surface and 6.6 degrees C at vitreous in Group 4. Temperature rise in vitreous was much lower than that in suprachoroid and inner retinal surface (table II, which revealed percentage of average rise per tissue temperature before diathermy). Highest measuring temperature at inner retinal surface in this experiment was under 60 degrees C, at which vitreous collagen fibrils may coagulate.

ABSTRACT

We experienced a case of eyelid neurofibroma in von Recklinghausen's disease, which had a typical sign, cafe-au-lait spots on generalized skin. The patient was a five year old girl who had no family history, and whose mentality was subnormal. The right eyelid, in which the neurofibroma involved, was thickened, and was ptotic. The surgical correction of the right eyelid ptosis was not satisfied.

ABSTRACT

A case of bilateral congenital ptosis with strong heredity. studied and treated at eye clinic in S.R.C.H. is reported. The ptosis was associated with external ophthalmoplegia and blepharophimosis in both eyes, and right esotropia. And typically eyeballs turned media-inferiorly when lids forcibly closed (inverted Bell's phenomenon).
