ABSTRACT

Screening teenagers at risk of substance and alcohol abuse isa priority, and therefore the adaptation of existing screeningscales is a necessity for eficient interventions. The DAST-10has been used to detect abuse of psychoactive substances; foralcohol abuse, one of the most used is the AUDIT. This studyaims to evaluate the reliability, validity and discriminationpower of the DAST-10 and AUDIT tests in Mexican adolescents, by conducting a strati#ed simple random sampling ofthe total population of a preparatory school at Mexico City. Both instruments were applied to 915 students and showed tobe valid and reliable; besides, they were sensitive to the identification of risk of substance and alcohol consumption andallowed to differentiate risk levels in men and women.
