ABSTRACT

The clinicopathological features of 133 patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia [CML] presented to the National Cancer Institute, Cairo during the year period 1983-1986 were studied. The mean age was 40 years [7 months to 73 years], with a slight male predominance [M:F ratio of 1.18:1]. Early fatigue was the commonest symptom, and splenomegaly was present in 97% of cases. Haematological findings were leucocytosis [100-300 x 103/mm3] in more than 50% cases in the chronic phase, anemia [Hb <10 g/dl in 60% of patients]. Twelve patients were in the accelerated phase and 14 others were in the blastic phase. Myelofibrosis was seen in 5 patients only. The median survival of patients in the chronic phase was 24 months and 4 only for the metamorphosis patients
