ABSTRACT

The frequency of Helicobacter pylori in children with malignancy was evaluate in the present study. Among 51 children included in the study, 29 children were in malignancy group [79.3% of them having positive one step diagnostic test], while 22 children were control group [54.5% of them having positive one step diagnostic test].h.pylori infection was significantly higher in the malignancy group comparedto the control group [P<0.05]; 44.8% having positive culture for H.pylori, while only 18.2% of control having positive culture for H.pylori. the results showing that there is no significant association between H.pylori and the type of cancer with P > 0.05. And there is a significant association between H.pylori and age more than 5 years with p< 0.05 which is statistically significant among patient groups. The results also showed that there is no significant association between H.pylori and sex among both patient and control groups with P> 0.05.

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the effects of maternal weight, height and gestational weight gain on pregnancy outcome in adolescent females, 100 adolescent pregnant mothers below 20 years and 50 adult pregnant mothers 20-25 years, as control group, and their outcome were examined through a longitudinal study carried out in Egypt. Cases were followed up during pregnancy at delivery and till the end of first month of neonatal life. Original formulae were used to estimate pre- pregnancy weight and gestational weight gain. There was a positive relation between adolescent mothers weight, height and gestational weight gain and birth weight of their outcome and to a lesser extent with birth length and head circumference. All measurements of neonates of adolescent mothers were at the 10th percentile but weight was compensated later and reached a good increment after one month. It seems that, the classical neonatal risk factors associated with maternal young age could be minimized later in infancy with postpartum adequate nutrition

ABSTRACT

Cryoglobulins were examined in a standardized manner in a selected group of 15 patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus including 4 patients having Raynaud's phenomenon and 15 patients with mild SLE including 4 patients having Raynaud's phenomenon. Also, 10 healthy controls were studied in this work. The incidence and the concentration of cryoglobulins were statistically significantly higher in active SLE patients [P <0.05]. Their incidence was also statistically significantly higher in SLE patients with renal disorders [P <0.05] and very highly significantly elevated in SLE patients with Raynaud's phenomenon [P <0.001]. Raynaud's phenomenon seemed to be strongly associated with the presence of cryoglobulins in SLE. All the detected cryoglobulins were of the mixed type containing predominantly IgG and lesser amounts of IgM. IgA was not detected throughout this work. All results were compatible with the hypothesis that cryoglobulins are immune complexes that are responsible, at least in part, for the pathogenesis of some SLE manifestations, especially Raynaud's phenomenon. Therefore, it may be recommended to examine patients having Raynaud's phenomenon for cryoglobulins. It is also tempting to postulate that SLE patients with cryoglobulinemia must be frequently examined for evidence of nephropathy. Also, it can be concluded that serial quantitation of cryoglobulins may be helpful in assessment of and monitoring the severity of SLE

ABSTRACT

Five extraction solutions free from boric acid and contained 0.2% sodium benzoate were prepared and used in extracting calves and adult bovine rennets [CR and ABR] using ultrasonic treatment. Some biochemical and microbiological properties were studied on the resultant CR and ABR during storage at 6 +/- 1C for 3 months. The results were given

ABSTRACT

Forty healthy untrained men participated in a 2-months training programme, consisting of three sessions of 1 hour duration per week. Serum total triglycerides, total cholesterol, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations in venous blood were assessed prior to, and at the end of, the training programme. Body composition including body mass index, fat thickness, blood pressure and heart rate were assessed before and after training. The results indicate that after 2 months of training a significant decrease in body mass index, fat thickness, heart rate and blood pressure were noticed. Also a significant decrease in total serum cholesterol concentration. No significant change was noticed for serum total triglycerides and high density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations
