ABSTRACT

Polycystic ovaries syndrome [PCOS] is the most common endocrine disorder in infertile women with unovulatory cycle. This disorder is associated with abnormal circulating hormones but its effect on early embryonic development and pregnancy rate is unknown. The aim of this study was to compared the fertilization rate, embryo quality and pregnancy rate between 130 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and 130 women with tubal factor for infertility and normal ovaries. One-hundred and thirty women with PCOS and 130 women with tubal infertility underwent Invitro fertilization [IVF] and Intracytoplasmic sperm injection [ICSI] treatments in Isfahan infertility center. Number of oocyte and embryo, fertility rate and embryo quality were compared between the two groups. Our results showed that average of oocyte retrieved, produced embryos and cumulative embryo quality score were higher in PCOS patients than in the tubal factor group. However, the fertilization rate was not different between the two groups [p<0.05]. The clinical pregnancy rate in PCOS patients was higher than the tubal factor group [p<0.05]. The probability of pregnancy in patients with PCOS is higher than patients with tubal factor. This is mainly due to selection of an embryo with high potential of earning and development

ABSTRACT

The role of stress in health and sickness has been shown in many studies. This is a fact that stress is related with many diseases. Studies showed that one unit increase in maternal stress score is related with 55.03 gram reduction in neonatal weight as well as a 3 day reduction in age of birth. This study evaluated the relation between maternal stress, neonatal age and weight at birth in Isfahan. This was a cross-sectional, descriptive, analytic survey which covered 301 women who referred to selected hospitals in Isfahan. Data collection was done by questionnaires, interviews and hospital documents. Data were analyzed by variance analysis and step down regression analysis. Data analysis showed that maternal stress is related with neonatal age [P=0/004] and weight at birth [P=0/041]. promotion of community knowledge in maternal emotional health is necessary. Public health can be promoted through maternal emotional support. Appropriate strategies can be applied to decrease maternal stress and increase mothers' knowledge on how to cope with stress
