ABSTRACT

Thyroid is a rare localization of tuberculosis. The clinical course of the disease may resemble toxic goiter or acute thyroiditis or may follow a subacute or chronic pattern without specific symptomatology. We report the case of a 37 year-old woman referred to the hospital with a diagnosis of goiter without clinical signs of tuberculosis. The diagnosis was established after total thyroidectomy and histological exam. Six-month treatment with antituberculous drugs was administered with a good outcome

ABSTRACT

The dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a rare but not exceptional tumor of the skin. It is misdiagnosed, often after multiple surgical debulking with cosmetic damage. The authors report the case of a 59 years old woman presenting a voluminous dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans located in the parotid area and not associated with facial palsy and trismus. The treatment consisted in a large surgical debulking of the sarcomatous tumor, the covering skin and the superficial lobe of the parotid. The surgeon used local flaps to repair the cosmetic damage. The post operative follow-up was of 1 year without complications and recurrence. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a cutaneous tumor characterized by local malignancy. It is seen mainly in adults regardless to sex and it is rarely seen in head and neck. This tumor has a rare propensity to metastasise and high relapse and sarcomatous transformation rates, A large debulking is the only solution to avoid a local recurrence

ABSTRACT

Adenoid cystic carcinoma [ACC] is a fairly uncommon malignant disease that accounts for about 1.3% of all paranasal sinus cancers, and occurs most commonly in the minor salivary gl and s of the head and neck. ACC grows slowly. However, it frequently recurs and metastasizes to distant organs such as lung or bone after treatment, and the prognosis is poor. Locally advanced lesions are usually managed best by resection and postoperative radiotherapy

ABSTRACT

The hearing loss is a problems of public health which can be described as major from the economic and human point of view, since 1 child over 1000 has at the birth a severe or profound deafness. This deafness has a prevalence of 1 per 10 in certain Tunisian geographical isolates. Our work concerned 33 patients with nonsyndromic sensorineural deafness who are regarded as probands and are recruited in service ORL of the Hospital La Rabta of Tunis. For each patient, a family investigation was carried out in residence and complete pedigrees were established. In addition, we selected a sample of 320 unaffected subjects for whom we established pedigrees in order to compare their inbreeding coefficient with that of the patients The samples of this study are orginated from the governorate of Bizerte The segregation analysis by the method of the maximum likelihood applied to the sample of deafs allowed to estimate the segregation frequency by taking account of various modes of selection in the sibships. The results obtained are compatible with autosomic recessive model with complete penetrance of the gene. The recessive hypothesis is strenghthened by the increase in the inbreeding coefficient of the probands compared to that of the controls
