ABSTRACT

The mechanism of immunity which causes expulsion of adult trichinella spiralis worms from the intestine of white rats was studied. This study was carried out on adult, young, lactating and non lactating female rats, immunized by antiserum and/or mesenteric lymph node cells and rats whose T-lymphocytes have been stimulated or inhibited. It has been found that immunity is more powerful in expelling the parasite from the intestine in adult and non lactating female rats than in young and lactating rats. Moreover, artificial passive immunity induced by antiserum and T-lymphocytes resulted in earlier expulsion beside increased number of the expelled worms. In addition, the workers proved that the mechanism of immunity in this respect is mainly cellular as shown through activation and inhibition of T-lymphocytes in vivo

ABSTRACT

Hycanthone has a schistomicidal effect against S. haematobium and S. mansoni present singly or combined in the patient. It is effective in all age groups but better in the old and adults than in children and better in females than in males. It gave a cure rate of 60.6% after single intramuscular dose of 3 mg/kg body weight .A Second dose after three months gave 94.4% cure rate and a third injection after further two months gave 100% cure rate, So, the drug should not be used in the treatment of bilharziasis as a single dose course

ABSTRACT

The immune response to heterologous antigen of mice infected with trichinella spiralishas been studied experimentally in this work the antibody response against T-independent antigen lipopl-yac charide were shown to be depressed in animals infected for 30 days and were not depressed in the early stages of infection. The antibody responses were measured by haemolysin test. This in contrast to the antibody responses against the T-dependent sheep's erythrocytes which were shown to be depressed by the three phases of infection [intestinal, migrating and muscles] by lubinecki et al [1974] and Ljungstrom and Hu'dt [1977]
