ABSTRACT

For systematic supervision of pregnancy at Aziza Othmana Hospital, toxoplasmose serology was made for 3286 pregnant women during four years [1988-1991]. Direct agglutination and indirect immunofluorescent were used. Immunosorbent agglutination assay was made only for suspect cases. - 63,5% of women have toxoplasma antibodies. - 10 cases of toxompasmosis were detected [0,3%]. Consequences of toxoplasmose were one mis-carriage, one abortion, one stillborn, one neonatal death at three days with confirmed toxoplasmosis, one premature and five normal births. This first study in Tunisia on prospective evaluation of foetal risk of toxoplasmosis shows the utility of systematic detection, clinical and serological supervision of normal births whose mothers have contracted toxoplasmosis during pregnancy
