ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to develop a Child Abuse Assessment Tool [CAAT], to assess nurses knowledge and attitude toward child abuse, and to determine differences in knowledge and attitude according to nurses' categories [students, educators, and care providers] and education background [Secondary Nursing school [SNS] and High Institute of Nursing [HIN]]. This study included a stratified sample of 336 nurses. They were distributed into 3 main categories and divided into 6 groups. The study carried out in the working area of the subjects. From the results obtained it was concluded that knowledge level of nurses of different categories regarding child abuse ranged from moderate to high, while their attitude was unfavorable [negative]. Nurses emphasized certain sociodemographic factors influencing child abuse and agreed certain high risk children/ parents and specific forms of abuse

ABSTRACT

This study monitored compared levels of stress reported by acute myocardial infarction [AMI] patients, at 2 times of measurements, at hospital discharge and after one month follow up [home stay]. A proposed teaching rehabilitation plan was developed based on the study findings. The study sample consists of 40 AMI patients recruited from a Coronary Care Unit at El-Manial University Hospital. Data were obtained by a structure interview using the stress of discharge assessment tool [SDAT] over 6-month period. A statistical significant difference was found between stress levels. Age was found to be a consistent variable overtime correlated significantly with other study variables. Health education intervention covering the general areas of concern [lifestyle] faced in the recovery which is recommended

ABSTRACT

The sample of the study comprised of a group of 37 students enrolled in pediatric nursing semester of 1990-1991 school year. Stress level was measured by a modified stress likert Scale, which yields three scores; total, physical, and emotional. Fears and concerns about pediatric nursing experience were assessed by a designed questionnaire, which yields four scores: total dealing with children, pediatric nursing courses student-staff relationship. Stress level and fears and concerns were measured twice, at the beginning and concerns were measured twice, at the beginning and the end of the learning experience [pre-test and post-test]. The main findings of this study indicated the presence of no statistically significant differences between mean scores of fears concerns and in the pre- and post-tests for the total score [t= 5.46, p <0.0001], dealing with children [t= 6.06, p <0.0001], and pediatric nursing course [t= 5.46, p <0.0001], dealing with children [t= 6.06, p <0.0001], and pediatric nursing course [t= -5.29, p <0.0001]. These results indicated that the students' fears and concerns about their experience were decreased in the post-test in these areas
