ABSTRACT

The effect of some organic compounds on the corrosion corr behavior of copper - iron alloy [1] and copper - aluminium - iron alloy [II] in 0.5 M H[2]SO[4] aqueous solution was investigated. The techniques of measurements were: weight loss, linear polarization and impedance spectroscopy. The organic compounds were: glycine [I], alanine [II], valine [III], histidine [IV], 2- aminothiazole [V] and 3- methyl -1- phenyl -2- pyrazolin -5- one [VI]. These compounds have high inhibition efficiency increases according to the order: I < II < III < IV < VI < V. The inhibitory effect of these compounds is achieved by their adsorption on the metallic surface via adsorption centers [N - atom and / or S- atom]. Their adsorption the metallic surface follows Temkins' isotherm of adsorption. The values of standard free energy of adsorption, delta G[degree sign] [ads], were calculated from the adsorption isotherms. The negative values of delta G[degree sign] [ads] indicate the adsorption process occurs spontaneously. There is an agreement between the results obtained from the different techniques of measurements

ABSTRACT

Eighteen mature mice were used and divided into three groups: [1] The 1st group [6 animals] was kept as control. [2] The 2nd group [6 animals] was given daily S.G. doses of stadol for 2 weeks. [3] The 3 rd group [6 animals] was given daily S.G. doses of stadol for 4 weeks. After each period blood samples were collected to test the liver functions. Then the animals were scarificed and their livers were removed and frozen sections were prepared for histochemical study of five enzymes. The significance of the results was discussed. Generally there is increased activity of the hydrolytic enzymes differ. The affection was more severe with prolongation of the period of administration of stadol. Liver functions must be normal before administration

ABSTRACT

120 patients were the material of this study. 50 patients with carcinoma insitu, 20 patients with papillary transitional cell carcinoma and 50 patients with benign cystitis of diverse aetiology. The stromal characteristics in papillary and non-papillary tumours of the urinary bladder were investigated in an attempt to improve the accuracy of histological diagnosis. It is possible to differentiate true papillary tumours from pseudopapillary structures lined by carcinoma insitu accompanied by denuding cystitis and cystitis due to other aetiological factors. It is concluded that histological factors. It concluded that histopathological examination of the stroma of the bladder tumours improves diagnostic accuracy

ABSTRACT

48 albino rats, 200-250 gm. body weight comprised the material for the present work. They were classified into 2 groups. The1st group was deprived from food while the 2nd groub was deprived from water as well. A third group of 6 animals used as control. The animals within the 1 st and 2nd groups were subdivided into 4 subgroups and used to study the effect od atarvation and stravation aasociated with dehydration for 3, 6, 9 and 12 days respectively on the structure and the function of the immunological system. It was found that atrophic changes inorm of lymphocytic epletion with absence of germinal centres occur in spleen, lymph nodes and tonsils after the first week. The atrophic changes were more marked in the group of starvation with dehydration. Also, efinite thymic involution was demonstrated from the start of the experiment in both groups. On the other hand relative increase in the gamma globulin occurred. At the same time decreased ymphocytic transformation reflecting an impairment of cell mediated immunity was demonstrated in the present study. The impact of these findings on existing public health and vaccination rograms are of importance and must be taken in consideration

ABSTRACT

Fourty one cases of primary GIT lymphomas were studied, Age ranged from 3- 81 years. The most common presentations were abdominal pain [88%]; abdominal mass [43%], loss of weight [36%] and intestinal obstruction, [22%]. Bleeding occurs only in 10% of the cases. Thirty four cases were managed by resection, seven cases biopsy was taken only as these cases either mesentric or inoperable lymphoma of the rectum. All cases had postoperative local or regional radiotherapy for [IE] or chemotherapy and local radiotherapy for [II E] or [III E]. The 41 primary GIT lymphomas were composed of 18 [44%] small intestine, 8 [19%] gastric, 5 [12%] ileocaecal; 4 [10%] colo-rectal and 6 [15%] mesentric. The commonest type was the diffuse histiocytic lymphoma 20 cases [49%] then the diffuse undifferentiated lymphocytic lymphoma 12 cases [29%] and the diffuse well differentiated lymphocytic lymphoma 3 cases [7. 5%]. Only 3 cases [7. 5%] displayed a nodular pattern. Burkitt's lymphoma was diagnosed in 3 cases

ABSTRACT

In the period from [1981 - 1984] 46 cases of hydatid disease of liver were treated in Riyadh Central Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Diagnosis was made using clinical criteria, serology. skin tests, ultra-sound, liver scans and CAT scan. Peri-cystectomy [excision of the cyst] was done for 2 pedunculated cysts. Endocystectomy and evacuation of daughter cysts with tube drainage of the cavity was done for 6 cases. This procedure was abandoned because of prolonged hospitalization [3- 8 weeks] and high incidence of infection in residual cavity. Endocystectomy with evacuation of daughter cysts with deroofing of the cavity was done for 38 cases. This was the prefered line of treatment because of short hospitalizatioo [10- 15 days] and low incidence of infection [8%]. All the cases were examined pathologically after removal
