ABSTRACT

Natural disasters occur in communities and sometimes led to tragic disasters. In the meantime, earthquakes are the most surprising one, which becomes a human tragedy in the absence of community prevention and preparedness, and have a destructive effect on human beings, habitat and the community directly and indirectly. This study aims to answer this question how to take proper managing of relief operations; and to explore and identify the strengths and weaknesses points of relief operations management by asking directors' and officers' point of views of Red Crescent society and its branches involved in relief working to the affected people in Eastern Azerbaijan. In this qualitative study, managers, deputies and heads of branches were selected and studied in the affected areas of Eastern Azerbaijan [Varzeqan, Ahar and Harris] in 2012. Using purposive sampling, data was collected and analyzed by content analysis and in-depth interviews technique. The reliability coefficient was C. [R=0/71]. The results show that attendance time of relief workers category was appropriate than others categories in carrying out relief operations of Red Crescent society in East Azerbaijan and other categories were very inappropriate/low inappropriate/somewhat inappropriate. According to the results, a crisis management committee including different organizations and agencies are required to plan properly for the way to deal with disasters and relief working, and timely and equitable of facilities distribution. In one hand, this planning should be at the macro level between all agencies and organizations including military and armed forces, ministries [roads and transportation, power, telecommunications, health care, etc.], municipality, councils and governors, county, and Red Crescent society. On other hand, this planning should be at the micro-level [coordination between various parts of Red Crescent society] inside Red Crescent society and in form of a protocol job description defined clearly

ABSTRACT

The reliable data are essential in order to describe injuries caused by traffic accidents, determine the risk factors, evaluate intervention, provide necessary information for policy makers and also promote public awareness. Appropriate prioritization would not be possible without reliable information in matters relating to the prevention of road and traffic injuries. This research aims to study traffic officers' viewpoints in Tehran with qualitative and quantitative method. The results were obtained from Rahvar police with using computerized form and its conclusions. In this descriptive-analytical study, all traffic officers of 4 and 8 districts were studied based on Tehran Traffic Police resources by using self-administrated questionnaire. The number of dead was 126 in Tehran in 2006. Also, September and October and then January had minimum and maximum statistics for the dead with 15 and 6 ones respectively. The effect of recorded information in determining of the accidents causes and prevention was rated highly by participants; 2 were assessed it low and 2 experts did not consider any impact. According to this study, the completion of computerized form for all death and injuries was the strength point of accidents data recording and monitoring system in Tehran traffic. So, it is suggested for all individuals to be familiar with public education programs and the way of data gathering and recording and its application in risk of mortality due to accidents in Rahvar Police of Tehran.

ABSTRACT

According to the vulnerability of the country towards natural disasters, it is essential to plan and take actions in order to minimize their effects and consequences. However, the research activities in this field and also the use of ideas and experiences of relief workers, affected people and also people involved in disasters are extremely effective. In this analytic - descriptive survey, all affected people were studied in the townships of Ahar, Harris and Varzeqan [in East Azerbaijan province]. By using stratified and randomly sampling, about 491 people in urban and rural areas of these affected areas were selected and studied based on Cochran formula. According to the census in 2006, the total population was 263,639. [df=95%], [r=0/05]. According to the findings, the performance of relief workers was assessed well in distribution of relief items, medical services and first aid. Also, about half of the people were satisfied with the provision of basic supplies and most people were satisfied with the distribution and access of drinking water. Almost half of the people were satisfied with distribution of relief camps and assessed well the emergency accommodation. The results showed that the performance of Red Crescent society has been very well with regard to the extent of the disasters especially in distribution of the required items and health services. Also, comprehensive plan should be done by Red Crescent society in the field of health services because the satisfaction of the health is about average. Necessary planning and prediction should be done in case of disasters because almost one third of citizens are living in rural areas

ABSTRACT

Considering the importance of dental health of patients' receiving dialysis and necessity of dentists and health officials' more attention to decisions and planning for such patients, this study aims to investigate the prevalence and status of tooth decay and gum diseases in dialysis patients in Red Crescent Center of Tehranpars. In this cross-sectional study, a total of 69 adult HD patients were evaluated in Red Crescent Center of Tehranpars by sampling in 2006. Data was collected through observation; interview and examination. The dental health status of patients was undertaken, in addition to their clinical and demographic characteristic.According to the results, the mean [SD] of DMF was 17/2 +/- 9/9 in all cases and were 11/44 +/- 2/6 in dentate ones; the mean of NIDCR was 34/5 +/- 25/4; also%45/8 of edentulous patients used of prosthetic devices at night; 54/2% of edentulous patients had mobility prosthesis in the lower jaw; 37/5% of the edentulous patients were with denture stomatitis lesions in the upper jaw. Regarding the furcation-involved teeth 41/5% and 26/8% of respondents had grade I and II respectively. Statistically, there was no significant correlation between furcation-involvement and duration of dialysis [P=0.654]. Given the dental plaque, 11/1% of patients had no calculus, 88/9% and 62/2% of participants had sub gingival calculus and supra gingival calculus respectively. About a third, brush their teeth sometimes or infrequently; and a half of the respondents brush their teeth horizontally. At the end, no significant correlation was observed between DS in upper jaw and using of prosthetic devices at night. Due to antibacterial properties of saliva urea in these patients, kidney disease and dialysis has no effect on tooth decay and will not exacerbate the disease. Therefore, it is necessary to do further studies comprehensively regarding dietary and drug regimens
