ABSTRACT
Introduction: malignant Lymphoma is a primary neoplasm of lymphoid tissue. It is the third most common cancer in children worldwide. There are.two broad categories of malignant Lymphoma: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and Ihdgkin's disease with different microscopic features, treatment, and prognosis
Aim of the work: to determine the types of lymphoma in all ages, and in relation to gender and site of lymph node involvement in Hadhramout governorate
Materials and methods: this is a retrospective descriptive study of 170 cases of lymphomas retrieved from the archives of National Oncology Center, Hadhramout during the period between 2008-2013. The diagnosis was assessed by immunohistochemical results and categorized according to WHO classification of lymphoid neoplasms
Results: Out of 170 cases, [116/170, 68.2%] had Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and [54/170, 31.8%] had Hodgkin's Iymphoma. A male predominance was observed [103/170, 60.6%]. B cell lymphomas were the most frequent Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma type [95/116, 81.9%] and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was the common pattern of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma [58/95, 61.1%] of all Non- Hodgkin's lymphomas] followed by the Burkitt's lymphoma [20/95, 21.1%]+ The distribution of Hodgkin's lymphoma showed predominance of nodular sclerosis classical Hodgkin's lymphoma [38/54, 70.4%] of all Hodgkin's Iymphoma]. The proportion of lymph node [nodal] involvement of lymphomas is higher than extra-nodal, being seen in [91/116, 78.5%] of all Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and [49/54,90.8%] of all Hodgkin's lymphoma
Conclusion: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is the most common type of malignant lymphoma, and DLBCL is the most common type, while nodular sclerosis classical Hodgkin's lymphoma is the most common type of Hodgkin's lymphoma. The nodal involvement of malignant lymphoma is higher than extra-nodal
