ABSTRACT

Objective To obsevre the clinical efficacy of acupuncture at bilateral sphenopalatine ganglions in treating allergic rhinitis. Methods Patients with allergic rhinitis were selected, and then were randomly divided into bilateral group, unilateral group, and control group, with 35 cases in each group. By the end of the study, 5 cases of bilateral group, 3 cases of unilateral group, and 2 cases of control group were removed. The bilateral sphenopalatine ganglions were acupunctured simultaneously in bilateral group, and the unilateral sphenopalatine ganglion was treated by acupuncture in unilateral group, once a week, for 4 weeks. The control group received routine acupuncture on Yingxiang (LI20), Bitong (EX-HN8), Yintang (EX-HN3), and Hegu (LI4), twice a week, for 4 weeks. Rhinitis symptom scale and life quality of nasal conjunctival scale score before and after treatment in the three groups were observed. The clinical efficacy was evaluated and the adverse reactions were recorded. Results The total effective rates of bilateral group, unilateral group and control group were 93.33% (28/30), 90.63% (29/32) and 72.73% (24/33), respectively, and the bilateral group and unilateral group were better than the control group (χ2=19.507, P=0.001), without statistical significance between bilateral group and unilateral group (P>0.05). Rhinitis symptoms and life quality were improved in the three groups (P0.05). Only 1 case of subcutaneous hematoma showed in unilateral group. Conclusion Acupuncture at sphenopalatine ganglions has confirmed efficacy, and there is no difference in the efficacy between acupuncture on bilateral sphenopalatine ganglions and unilateral sphenopalatine ganglion.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo observe the short-term and long-term efficacies of acupuncture at phenomaxillary ganglia in treating allergic rhinitis.MethodThe recruited subjects were intervened by acupuncture at phenomaxillary ganglia, once a week and 6 times asa treatment course. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was adopted to evaluate the general condition and nasal symptoms, and the Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ) was used to estimate the quality of life (QOL). The evaluations were performed before and after intervention, as well as 2 years after the intervention.ResultThe subjects all had significant improvements in the clinical symptoms after 6 sessions, and the VAS scores of the general conditional nasal symptoms and RQLQ score were significantly decreased (P0.05).ConclusionAcupuncture at phenomaxillary ganglia is effective in treating allergic rhinitis, and the efficacy lasts stably within 2 years.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the regulatory effect of acupotomy lysis on SP level in spinal cord and tissues above spinal cord of rats with knee osteoarthritis. Methods 60 healthy SD rats were randomly divided into normal control group, model group,electro-acupuncture(EA)group,and acupotomy lysis(AL)group.Mix 4%papain solution with 0.3 mol/L cysteine solution in the ratio of 1∶1.After pausing for 0.5h,inject the mixture,20 μl each time, into the left knee joint cavities of rats in model,AL,and EA groups on the day of 1,4,7.After 4 weeks AL group was treated with acupotomy lysis and EA group with electro-acupuncture.Three weeks after treatment, take samples of spinal cord, midbrain, pituitary gland, thalamus, and hypothalamus from the swellings of rats'waists.Measure the content of SP therein separately. Results Compared with normal control group, there was a significant rise in the content of SP in spinal cord and the tissues above spinal cord of model group rats (P<0.05,P<0.01),and there was a significant rise in spinal cord, pituitary gland, thalamus and hypothalamus of EA group rats (P<0.05,P<0.01);in AL group, there was a significant rise in spinal cord, pituitary gland, thalamus, and there was no statistically difference in hypothalamus and midbrain.Compared with normal control group, there was a significant rise in spinal cord (P<0.05)and a significant decrease in the SP contents in hypothalamus(P<0.05,P<0.01)in EA group. There was no statistically difference between EA group and AL group except in hypothalamus(P<0.05).Conclusion Acupotomy lysis has positive functions in regulating SP content in centrum of rats with knee osteoarthritis, which helps easing pain.
