ABSTRACT
The results of a study on the course of tardive dyskinesia are presented. Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale was used for 50 chronic psychiatric out - patients. Originally the study included 68 patients but 18 dropped out over the four year period. At each examination about 40% of the patients showed signs of TD; 25% of these were best described as having fluctuating TD status. Of the patients who were consistently TD positive, 80% showed no overall significant change in summed AIMS scores, 14% improved and 6% became worse
