ABSTRACT

O CPI evidenciou 70,6% doença periodontal no grupo LPO e 41,1% no grupo controle.

Objective: To evaluate the oral conditions in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) and compared with a control group. Method: 17 patients with OLP and 17 age- sex- matched controls were selected. Oral examination and DMFT index, CPI, OHI-S and GSI, and unstimulated and stimulated salivary flow were determined. Statistical analysis was being applied qui-square and Mann-Whitney test, considering significant p less than 0.05. Results: In both groups of patients were 82.4% female, the patient age range with OLP was 15-73 years (maen 49±16 years). In the OLP group the mean DMFT was 4.18±4 and the control was 1.88±3.3. As for the OHI-S, 64.7% in OLP group had satisfactory oral hygiene and control 94.1%. The CPI showed 70.6% of periodontal disease in OLP group and 41.1% in the control group. The mean unstimulated salivary flow was 0.38±0.19 ml / min. and 0.44 ± 0.22 ml / min., OLP and control group, respectively. Statistically significant differences were observed in OHI-S (p=0.035), CPI (p=0.033) and DMFT (p=0.033). There was no statistically significant difference in the unstimulated salivary flow (p=0.200), stimulated salivary flow (p=0.381) or GSI (p=0.381). Conclusions: Patients with OLP had worse oral health conditions and had no dysfunction of the salivary glands. We emphasize the importance to control the oral factors in patients with OLP.
