ABSTRACT

Introduction: Patients with a history of ischemic cardiopathy generally don´t want to abandon a physical or sport activity; on the other side, they can undoubtedly obtain benefits from a physical exercise plan which brings a better life quality. Objective: To evaluate he functional capacity of patients with ischemic cardiopathy who have been rehabilitated with physical therapy, according to the ergometric trace. Method: A descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out in the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Service from Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Teaching in Santiago de Cuba during the biennium 2007-2019, in 41 patients who had suffered from a myocardial infarction and were included in a cardiovascular rehabilitation program. To determine the functional capacity, the cardiovascular risk level was compared to the functional class before and after the physical exercise. Results: It was achieved to modify the ergometric response in 87.8 % after applying the rehabilitation program, while the cardiovascular state according to the risk level of the patients was modified in 68.2 % towards the low risk and the functional capacity showed an improvement of 82.9 %. Conclusions: The implementation of a cardiac rehabilitation program was useful in most of the patients, and a significant improvement of the evaluated cardiovascular parameters was obtained, what pointed at a reestablishment of the life quality and of tolerance to efforts.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Regular physical activity can contribute to prevent diseases at the minimum cost possible, especially if it is a healthy life habit and not a risky activity that requires a strict and expensive specialized medical supervision. Objective: To evaluate the influence of the physical exercise on risk factors of coronary disorders in patients with ischemic heart disease. Methods: A descriptive investigation of 41 patients that had suffered from a heart attack and were part of a program of cardiovascular rehabilitation was carried out in the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Service of Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from May, 2017 to the same month in 2019. With this purpose the most frequent risk factors of coronary disorders were selected in the sample, which were analyzed before and after the implementation of the program. Results: Risk factors prevailed in men (68.4 %), with a higher incidence of hypertriglyceridemia in both sexes (56.1 %). After the rehabilitation, a decrease of glycemia, triglycerides and serum cholesterol figures was achieved. Conclusions: The programs of cardiovascular rehabilitation improve the health of the patients and provide as well socioeconomic benefits to the society.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Since the description and biochemical characterization of the first insect-specific neurotoxins from scorpion venoms, almost all contributions have highlighted their potential application as leads for the development of potent bioinsecticides. Their practical use, however, has been hindered by different factors, some of which are intrinsically related to the toxins and other external determinants. Recent developments in the understanding of the action mechanisms of the scorpion insectotoxins and their bioactive surfaces, coupled with the exploration of novel bioinsecticide delivery systems have renewed the expectations that the scorpion insectotoxins could find their way into commercial applications in agriculture, as part of integrated pest control strategies. Herein, we review the current arsenal of available scorpion neurotoxins with a degree of specificity for insects, the progress made with alternative delivery methods, and the drawbacks that still preclude their practical use.(AU)
