ABSTRACT
Se revisó la bibliografía disponible sobre el piercing, no solo por la vigencia del tema, sino por el escaso conocimiento que poseen al respecto muchos profesionales de la salud y porque personas no capacitadas y autorizadas suelen realizar ese acto. Se concluye que la gran aceptación social del piercing requiere un enfoque fundamentalmente orientador, lo cual puede lograrse mediante la explicación detallada de las distintas complicaciones y medidas a tomar para evitarlas, en función del lugar de implantación de la pieza.
The available literature on the piercing was reviewed, not only for the validity of the topic, but also for the scarce knowledge that many health professionals have in this respect and because non qualified and non authorized people carry out this procedure. It is concluded that the great social acceptance of the piercing requires fundamentally a guiding approach, what can be achieved by means of the detailed explanation of the different complications and measures in order to avoid them according to the place of implantation of the piece.
