ABSTRACT

A study aimed at knowing the prevalence of cervicovaginal infections among pregnant women was conducted at 'Ramón Gonzalez Coro' Gynecoobstetric Hospital. To this end, vaginal samples were taken from 333 expectants in this institution. The germ with the highest incidence was found, and the postitivity in all to at least one germ was observed. It was concluded that further studies on the association of these germs with unfavorable events of pregnancy or delivery were needed. This investigation was considered very useful, since some germs are connected with maternal morbidity and delivery prematurity, and they may cause negative effects on the fetus and the newborn.
